Cactus-Jack,
That is outrageous, absolutly outrageous. What ever happened to training advocates for PTSD clients? It certainly seems to be that she is totally clueless. Maybe you could suggest to her that she read Judith Herman's book Trauma and recovery.
Oh, O am pissed, really pissed. I volunteer with a retreat community which partners with people disabilities for 3 1/2 days. We are on retreat together just some of us can't talk with out a facilitator. That person is your partner. Whatever the folks can't do for themselves, we help always listening to how they like things to be done. It's commonsense politeness. Do you need me to brush your teeth or would you like to do it on your own. I hold the spit bowl. Big deal .
The physicaly disabled have their own list of platitudes. The worst one I know is, "Oh, well. You must have a gift of prayer, dearie." [DLMURL="http://www.ptsdforum.org/c/javascript:;"][/DLMURL]Wheelchair does give them time. But how in the world can someone judge and patronize another human like that that. I have a friend without speech inteligible to us[DLMURL="http://www.ptsdforum.org/c/javascript:;"]:ninja:[/DLMURL], but most of the folks who have cerebral palsey get it on his first try. Why can't he be a pastor, an evangelist in his current setting, a fine and caring man. [DLMURL="http://www.ptsdforum.org/c/javascript:;"]:)[/DLMURL]He greats me by flaling all arms and legs together. It is the same way a baby meets its caregiver But Anjelo beats them, hands done.
Soory if I'm off target. Cactus-jack[DLMURL="http://www.ptsdforum.org/c/javascript:;"][/DLMURL]
O_O_O-o-0-o, I am still pissed. Hey, world we need understanding. Wise I up, now would be a good idea.
