MARINES S2
New Here
I am a retired member of Marines Corps. I started out as a member of a Marine S-2 Scout/Sniper unit in Vietnam in 68-69. Got medivaced in 69 and did 9 months in a naval hospital recovering from wounds. I took my SAT exams while in the hospital, passed and was accepted by University of my choice. Majored in Physics and minored in Journalism. During this time, I was convinced by another gov agency to stay in the Corps and go TDA to their ops. They fail to explain their idea of temporary duty assignment was to the tune of twenty more years. (Talk about "dumb jarheads")
After retiring in the 90s, I started a small made in the USA manufacturing company to create jobs for fellow disabled veterans and their families. Due to my own "PTSD disabilities", my sucess has been limited. I was awarded the SBA's Veteran Small Business Avocate of the Year 2003 Award for the state I live in. I also received in 2008 from our state chapter's Dick Sloviciak Barrier Buster award for my efforts to create job opportunities for the disabled.
The is the first time I have written about myself in a public forum and I do so with the goal in mind that maybe by connecting with others of similar disabilities, we can find a way(s) to collectively help each other gain a Higher Quality of Life that is sustainable. I believe that the first step is creating sustainable job opportunities that work around a person's disabilities and enhances their talents to the highest level they are motivated to achieve.
