Have you considered treating school colleagues in a strictly professional manor? Communication would be solely about school/career issues and that is all. I've found it beneficial to not be anything less than professional with those who I know in relation to my work/career. It helps to keep these strict boundaries because there is no "wink wink, we're friends, right?" or other such behaviour that could confuse the structure of the relationship or put your work/job/career in jeopardy (now or in the future).
