Will My Therapist Force Me To Go To Hospital?

Hospitalization is not a death sentence. I benefited because I worked harder than everybody else for fear of coming out just as bad as I went in. Trust the professional and speak the truth; if not why bother?!
Hello Madmax,
This is really true. Professional are suggesting us for a healthy life. As health plays an important role for a happy life, don't feel that going to hospital is like a punishment.

Research indicates that most people who are given these crazy drugs for ptsd, depression, etc, don't get better. Also, taking these drugs can make people worse, not better.

I disagree. Yes there are people that are pushed into taking medication and that is not right. But there are also many people that are helped by medication, me being one of them. I have been fortunate to be able to try new meds and see how they work for me. If I didn't feel they were benificial then I stopped them. I was never forced to take them. Also I am on a some medications now that have changed my life for the better.

With my PTSD which started when I was very young, it has altered my body chemistry and I need the help of medication, just like a diabetic needs insulin because their body doesn't produce enough. I have tried going off my meds a few times and my body just can't produce what it is getting from the meds. My quality of life would be much, much worse without my medication just like someone with a physical problem.

As for making people worse while taking these meds, then the Dr and patient (who needs to take some responsibility for their heath also) need to talk about it as maybe they have not found the right med fit or this person. Just like certain antibiotics work better on certain infections. Also maybe it's not an issue that needs meds at all.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it's not ALL psychiatrist and doctors that prescribe meds do so just to make money. My psychiatrist makes med suggestions but my family doctor does the prescribing as my psychiatrist is too far away to see regularily. So no money to my psychiatrist. I also believe there are many psychiatrists and doctors that truly want to help people.

In my opinion it's like saying that all "black" or "native" or "whatever group" of people are a certain way. Everyone is an individual and shouldn't be lumped into a group and labeled. Maybe I am just an opptimest but I believe there are still good people out there in the world.

Maelstrom, I have been to the psych ward three times in the last two years, 2 were involuntary. The second time a psychiatrist came to see me at intake and I flippantly told him it was not a "real" attempt and that I calculated all the half lives of what I took and he interrupted and yelled at me, as I later realized I needed, that one day I was going to miscalculate and be dead. You must tell your psych everything otherwise they cannot help you. It's not a very big step from ideation to attempt. I signed up here just now only to post to you to please, help yourself even if it means landing in the hospital. Temporary safety and a wake up call for some.
