They told me to eat something beforehand, so they'll be vomit if they put it in my hand.

The veins on the hand are just usually a tiny bit easier. But you can tell them to try and put it elsewhere. Just be clear that you are extremely phobic and you'd like your IV anywhere but your hand.

Be clear and direct, and it'll probably be OK.

If they place it in your arm, they will probably need to tie off your arm and have you squeeze and release your hand a few times, to bring up your veins. Does that sound OK, or worse?
