Australia has done a very poor job.
On our current testing regime which is not far from the best in the world we are testing positive for covid19 for less than 1% - that's not poor. Poor would be South Africa, Jordan & a lot of the rest of the world where they simply do not have the resources. Further, tracing of contacts with infected persons is still happening. We are not abandoning the measures that China proved were effective.
^Two ways of thinking on this. Close down the schools and elders may be needed to supervise children at home thereby exposing many, many elderly people. Children lose their education, social interactions etc. or,
Leave schools open & you risk the spread of the infection amongst predominantly young who statistically are less affected. But yes, teachers likely will be exposed. Perhaps take those high risk teachers out of the system? Too late now I suppose.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't??
Schools are due to close for the Easter holidays. Those schools that do close and elect to teach online are
required to still provide a physical school environment for children to attend as well as an online mode. This is to assist with all of the 'essential service' providers who have children who require an education. We cannot pull essential service providers out of the system however their children must be catered for in terms of education.
There is also very little information that children are super spreaders of the covid19. So there may be no greater risk within the school environment. There seems to be some inconsistent commentary regarding children being super spreaders but no data exists in the world. The only caveat to the whole school situation seems to be that even in schools there should be protection of the elderly (teachers) and practicing of social distancing must be adhered to. So children can still go to school tomorrow if their parents elect to send them.
There is a list of places that have been required to close & they include clubs, bars & the restaurant trade. There is no wholesale shutdown of businesses aside from those being told to do so.
All my friends are teaching and they are all sick.
^Are you saying you have a cluster of teachers, in QLD with covid19 because it's not on the National database that is being updated hourly if they are?
These teachers you speak of are not
lost. Our current death toll stands at seven and has done so for three? days. There has been no spike in mortality like you suggested. However there has been a jump in infections directly attributable to failure of young adults not following social distancing rules.
