In the states today, the Centers for Disease Control announced that if one has been fully vaccinated they don't need to wear a mask or use social distancing. However, I am at high risk of complications so I may continue to wear my mask till more people have been vaccinated.

Which means all the anti-vaxers will shed the masks the never wanted to wear and only do to be allowed into shops & avoid being arrested by police, and all the vaccinated carriers who shed theirs... will start spreading the virus like wildfire, again. There’s not even a bracelet or anything to wear to prove vaccination to counterfeit. It’s an “on your honor” system. In America. Where virtually no one gives a f*ck about honor.

To be frank, it feels like a ploy to get people scared enough, by the spike in cases & deaths whilst overall numbers are lowering and hospitals are still equipped, to vaccinate who otherwise wouldn’t.

It’s a sound mathmatical / statistics / psych ploy. We’ll lose fewer people in the long run, by sacrificing some now. But it makes me sad. Collateral damage is always sad. And I’ll still be n95 masking / gloving / “gowning” to go out, and decontamination showering/scrubbing every time I leave the house & return... for probably the next 6-12mo. Assuming I live that long.

our whole society appears to be collapsing systematically which it’s always been in need of doing quite frankly there are too many old models in place and it was never self-sustainable. but it is frustrating and maddening and disgusts me beyond repair, really.

there are people that i know who are refusing to become vaccinated. and i mean i can’t have a discussion with these people because i will start yelling at them, genuinely, genuinely yelling at them. how do you not understand, because you have no empathy. you have no empathy for what it is like until it happens to you and then you go on facebook. “oh, woe is me, i didn’t listen. look what happened.”

I think the whole trauma thing, may highlight that a bit more. When a person has to work hard not to take responsibility for OTHER people’s actions? To draw the line between what I did, vs what others did, vs what simply happened? That’s more awareness of personal responsibility, and where those lines lie, than most people ever -these days, in this place, at least- ever really face.

Do you get just as angry over people who don't get seasonal flu vaccines?

Cuz there's ppl walk around every flu season infecting others and some of those people might die...... are they cowards as well? should those deaths be on their conscience too? have you never felt a little sick and gone to the store or to work pre-covid19? is it even possible for you to know who you've infected and what damage it's caused?


is there realistic talk of fully eradicating this virus or will it most likely be seasonal from here on out?
If you don't get a covid vaccine every season/ twice a year does that mean you're a coward and responsible for however many deaths that season too?

Are we also going to start carrying vaccination cards for other seasonal viruses?

do i shame people who deliberately throw not getting a flu vaccine in other people’s faces because they think it will upload them with 5G? i feel like this is a trick question. and getting this vaccine is not the same thing as getting a flu shot. the flu has a fraction of a percentage of the death rate of covid.

i honestly do not care to debate any further on the subject. i was and am and will remain frustrated by these people because they are morons and i dislike them and i won’t apologize for that. if we reach the point that covid becomes a seasonal virus as a species we will have built up enough immunity to where it is not as big of a deal to contract it, but given the rate at which it is mutating and the effects that new strains have against our current vaccination methods the idea that covid will become as simple as the flu is not as clear-cut.

even still, yes, you are perfectly an idiot for failing to vaccinate yourself and protect other people against common illnesses that may not impact your life but they do impact the lives of others. and no, fine, i don’t want them to be all rounded up and executed, but yes, i am getting a little sick and f*cking tired of hearing from people at my job that they won’t get the vaccine because they don’t know what’s in that stuff or they saw a poorly edited photograph on twitter or whatever, because god f*cking forbid they think of anyone else but themselves.

i’m tired of the middle ground, i am exhausted from catering to everybody else and never being allowed to show my rage and my frustration for a single f*cking moment of the day because i need to stay professional or else i will lose my job.

I will continue to wear my mask and I have had both my shots. I have become less political and more self-caring since this whole nightmare started. And in the States?? We could have a million conversations, pro, and con, about the people here and how they have acted or reacted to this deadly virus.

I also know people who are refusing to get the vaccine. Their reasons or excuses simply baffle me. I don't bother to engage with them because I understand they will end up having a funeral few will be able to attend.

Some companies have even offered money to those who get vaccinated. Money as an incentive.

I will wear my mask and continue to stay away from people who aren't wearing a mask. I will still come home and wash my hands and take personal precautions. Because this isn't just about ME.

We could have another thread about the sorry condition the States is in. I am sometimes more concerned by the innate selfishness of the people of States than I am about Covid. On many levels, the amount of insanity and selfishness I see is reason to be concerned. At least I will know who NOT to call in an emergency.

ETA: This is my reply to people who say, ' because I don't what's in it'. I simply ask, ' have you ever eaten a hotdog?' I just get a dumb look because it never occurred to them to check the ingredients of those nasty things. Then I walk away.

i really don’t get it either. this is not a new problem but it is one that has been thrown into sharp relief. it is something that used to impact me a lot more than it now does, but it still does, because i am not extricated from my former life simply because my circumstances have changed.

to have the luxury of not giving a shit. to have to hold myself back from using dead friends as argumentative trump cards because that is not how i want them to be remembered. but i am so f*cking tired. i am so, so, so, so, so. tired. tired and sad and pissed off. tired of idiots. tired of stupid people. tired of holding my tongue.

Because BEST case scenario it’s a minimum of 10k in new medical debt (and we’ve gone into 7 figures of medical debt, 10k is the bare minimum), and at worst my kid is coding repeatedly at a level 1 trauma center & spending months inpatient, with no known prognosis... because people don’t f*cking give a damn about anyone else. Oh it’s “just” the flu. Selfish, self centered, first world goddamn f*cking c*nts. I DESPISE people who go out and about into the world sick, because it doesn’t bother them. So why the hell should they care about infants, the elderly, the pregnant, the immunocompromised, and all of their families, and the effect they will have on anyone else? I am ALWAYS this pissed off at people dragging their illnesses out in public. (But then I worked epidemics in the 3rd world, where people hiked for days to get themselves and their kids immunized, and dug mass graves, and buried babies, and held onto wailing mothers, and so it’s been reeeeeally personal, for a very long time.) Except -with Covid- a lot more people are now aware that their actions kill other people. Canada is much the same, we just have a fraction of the population so it's not as apparent here, for the most part.

spent the better part of the day listening to coworkers complain about everything. in the "first world" i can safely say that isn't my problem any more. not my monkeys. not my circus. doesn't affect me. except it is my problem when people are losing their jobs. losing their health insurance. end up in the hospital. get covid and f*cking die.

@Friday says it the best. it is personal. i knew their families and spoke with them and shared in their joys and losses. they are real people. not names or faces or numbers. human beings. and personally i've had the thought so many times over this pandemic: what will happen to me? will i be able to make sure i have the resources i need to keep myself safe and my family safe if people are stealing toilet paper at the grocery store and insurrectionists are overtaking the white house?

it sounds dramatic and it probably was. but that is a real fear that i really had. and i am not alone. the CDC actually has the answer direct from NASTAD plastered in huge letters right there. how many people in africa and asia right now are dead from opportunistic infections that no one pays any attention to. never have. never did. never will. these are people who are the lowest of the low on society's totem pole. and covid is a pretty huge opportunistic infection.

ppl left with nothing no government help only volunteer aid which is incredible but not enough. not even close. it gets bad enough people are dropping dead in the street and no one stops. modi flat out admitted he has no idea what he's doing and no plan to offer assistance. and people are dying of easily treatable diseases because all of those resources are shifted to covid and there are areas that managed to maintain good coverages (although art init in kzn was still down over half-which means people are dead, simple.) but for the most part it is a f*cking shit show.

and that is on top of new variations of covid. these are not stupid people. it's not like they don't understand how vaccines work. they are poor people! and they are dealing with poor people problems. and poor people problems means you don't get priority for medicine for other diseases that are killing your f*cking people on top of a deadly global pandemic.

that's not coronavirus. but our society is interwoven. all of the parts of our societies and global commerce function together. not in a vacuum. when your health care system is overloaded from covid you have people dying from things that the hospital used to find simple to treat. and this is not isolated to developing countries. i speak about this particular casualty because i know about it first-hand but i am sure many people who are similarly affected can chime in. people who have organ transplants and other diseases. people with heart and lung problems.

covid takes the r0 of the flu and decimates it. so you are walking through a room and breathing and infecting who knows how many other people. and how many of those people immunocompromised? afford vaccines? allergic to vaccines? too young to get a vaccine? and people are just walking around. oh, i don't know if i'll get vaccinated. because my arm might hurt. i don't know if i'm going to vaccinate my child. i see white. my vision honestly gives out.

your arm will hurt for a day max. you might get the Feelbads. vaccines save people's lives every single day. pep/hrig saves lives every single day. ever get bitten by a wild animal? make a mistake? get a needle stick? fact. every day. you just don't hear about it because it's not even a blip in the western world. the same kinds of things that kill people every day that we never worry about. or how some people do not even think it "exists" anymore. like cholera. diphtheria. tuberculosis. medication saves lives. vaccines save lives. always. always.
