Wrap wellness recovery action plan. have you made one?

Do you know if this is the usual length of the program?
Length of program varies. 10 weeks at 2.5 hours a week, gives participants the opportunity to let what they have learned sink in until the next segment. There is something to be said for that.

I preferred, for myself, the full day format. It was more immersive and I feel like I got more out it (I took WRAP Level I 2x); Now that I think about it though, the 2.5 hour course allowed me to do a slow exposure in a group, so that was really valuable too.

Let me look and PM you @CdnCopper and see what I can find for WRAP in your area.

All I can find is the online seminar for $399.
Right? I research a ton and never found WRAP. Had no idea it even existed.

I looked today and can never freaking find it. Yet now that I am in with agencies, I 'get to know' when the courses are. It's crazy to me. Like they had to have put effort into keeping it so under 'wrap', if you will.

I'e downloaded the app and started filling it in. Thanks @CdnCopper :)

Parts of it I realise I'm kinda already doing - gathering a list of things I need to do daily, and things to do when I feel bad.

Some parts talk about getting help from my supporters and I don't have any of those which makes me want to cry but hopefully in the future that will change. And in the mean time I'm learning to be the best supporter of myself that I can.

Very interested in doing the course if I can find one in the UK. In the meantime I might check out some books. Which book did you get @CdnCopper ?

Hi @Bearlinda ....haven't purchased anything yet. Contemplating taking the program though. Have done quite a bit of reading on it though from research papers online. Not too many of them with regard to outlining pros and cons however it certainly has quite a following in the Mental health field so that is set a pro that it is so widely used and accepted.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you when in comes to the support system part....that would be me, my dog or my cat.

But like yourself I believe there are parts of it that I could put into use to help make my days better and yes their are a few things I already do but this kind of formalizes it and puts into a structured program of daily living.

Okay @CdnCopper, looks like there is a course at St. Joe's in Hamilton.
Bridge To Recovery Program - St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton

@EveHarrington , perhaps you can look at hospitals in your area for a free WRAP course. Or an agency in your area that helps those who are at risk. We have something called the Krasman Centre here that does WRAP for free.

@Bearlinda , I found this link re WRAP in the UK. There are more. I can certainly help you find something. I know the UK does do WRAP training. Oh, and here is another link from the RC of Psychiatrists. Looks like they give it a thumbs up as well.
Developing a Wellness and Recovery Action Plan

I hope this helps each of you. Please feel free to contact me if you come up against a brick wall. This course is worth sourcing out. Would have saved me 10's of thousands in therapist fees, I swear.

I’m actually IN a program that helps at risk people. They don’t do it. I’ll ask the director of my day program if she knows about it. There are no nearby facilitators so I’m guessing nobody nearby does it, but I’ll keep looking. I’ll just read the book and do it on my own if I have to. I’m a bit annoyed that most of the facilitators are either “for hire” if you want WRAP for your organization, or they only do it for their own organization.

Yes, I understand your frustration. Personally I think this course should be advertised heavily. Peer Support is really just starting to be valued here in Ontario. I can't speak for the other provinces, but if there was a province that would be forward thinking it would be Alberta. They have, as far as I am concerned, the best healthcare in the country. Anyway..... sorry

Here the non profits force the WRAP Facilitators to work volunteer, which is retarded. Then the non profits only do a few courses a year and only to their clientele. Nobody that I can find in Ontario charges for WRAP. I do. That is the business I am building. I hate to charge for it but I am not independently wealthy, so must support myself. I am thinking I will structure my classes with a percentage having the option for very, very low cost attendance.

Honestly, I don't understand why WRAP is so on the down low.

@shimmerz

It’s quite frustrating!

The official WRAP site just wants you to sign up for their course, and the site I linked before just has a bunch of articles by leaders who say that WRAP is awesome, everyone should do it, blah, blah, blah.

I totally get that it’s a program developed by a person and the organization needs to make money, but c’mon.....you can’t tell me that this stuff is rocket science and won’t be understood unless you are taught it in a class format!

Hopefully my WRAP book will be available at the library this week, and hopefully it’s enough to guide me through making my own action plan.

It is quite annoying that the program is so inaccessible.

There is a larger organization in my state that facilitates WRAP classes, but in my county the organization that does WRAP is a peer to peer program....I haven’t heard good things about the program, but I will look into it. I’m still not convinced that I need a class to do this!

Here’s a link to a plan so you can make one of your own....
