Writing To Combat Ptsd

Hello my Brothers. I'm Andrew. I am a Marine Corps Combat Vet and served with Fox Co 2nd Bn 23rd Mar RCT-1 in OIF I and II back in 2003 as an 0351 (Anti Tank Assaultman). I received a mild TBI from an RPG blast and developed PTSD after coming home due to my experiences in combat. Over the years I've been in and out of jail, two failed marriages, drank a lot, used drugs and came within a centimeter of blowing my head off. The past year and half have been amazing for me. I have taken up writing as my weapon of choice to combat my PTSD. Through individual and group therapy, support of my fiancee and family and the trust I have with a pen and paper, I have become an entirely new man. I would like to know if anyone else here also uses writing as a therapeutic weapon. I have been published several times and won a 3rd prize award and I continue to seek out more ways to get my work exposed to Combat Vets and their families. If you get a chance, take a look at my Facebook Author Fan Page so you can get an idea of what I have written and see the amazing feedback and support I have received. Just search for Andrew R. Jones. I look forward to hearing from all of you. Much love and God bless.

Welcome and Semper Fi. I write to relive stress but mostly just in here as postings. I think most of us in here are brothers and the longer we stay and the more we post the closer we get.

I do find that writing stuff down helps to sort the thoughts. I have at least 30 saved Word files on differant topics. Sharing those files is not something I would ever be comfortable with though. Glad you have been able to move past the fear of discrimination. Someone has to tell our story.I was a tanker.

Just thought you should see this. That is a Canadian Leopard. You Anti Tank guys scare me. We're on your side. Don't shoot, dammit!

Welcome aboard!
I think a big issue with PTSD is not enough folks have real hobbies anymore. Me, I gave up the video games (full-time) for modeling and biochemistry.

As the others said, whatever works for you, manno!

We have generals too? WTF!? Are they Canadian or did we borrow them from other countries. 128 tanks! Are they on long or short term lease. You know, like our twin otter fighters in the Air Force and the tug boats battleships in the Navy, they are up for renewal in 2014.
