I just found this forum today. At 57 years old, I have recently been convinced that the reason I have made such a shambles of my life is that I've had PTSD for nearly 40 years. Lots of people have suggested the possibility over the years, but I've always been pretty sure what I went through couldn't have been traumatic enough to cause a disorder. I'm too tough for that. I've been in therapy for a month, and I feel worse now than I ever have in my life. My therapist says it could take a while to get better and that I could get worse fist.
I live alone on a sailboat in Western Washington. The boat is all I have after about 50 different jobs over 40 years. My lifestyle has resulted in quite a few physical problems which amazingly are being treated by the Veterans Administration. Who knew I was eligible? I don't feel like I have much time left, and it's tempting to just chuck it in and try to go back to functioning the way I did before I started therapy. It's hard for me to imagine what recovery would look like other than I'll somehow feel better. Can anybody tell me what it feels like to be recovered?
