Should One Person's Beauty Be A Standard To Judge Another Person???

I wonder what would happen if you, instead of deciding beauty is shallow and doesn't matter and shouldn't be something you care about and try to demean and fight against, if you played around with the possibility that physical beauty is important to you? That it's not only special, desirable, attainable... But also a perfectly acceptable goal to attempt to achieve? Right along with each and every single other of your heart's desires.

My only issue with this FJ (lookie here, I have 'an issue' with one of your posts. Theres a first for everything! ;)) is there are things that I feel makes me ugly, and makes me ugly to others so ive been told my whole life, are things I cant change. Sure if beauty is skinny i can diet & exersise, but what about those things you cant change or 'live up to'?

To me, I dont see outside "beauty" at all, just as I dont see skin color as its all skin deep. I look at your morals, values, likes & dislikes, loving and accepting of others, generious and want to give when and where can etc. Looks have nothing to do with my attraction to you. If you talk to me i want to know whom you really are. And that lived up to the test with my ex...my dad calls him physically ugly, i call him internally ugly.

Anyway, my point is, why try to change whom we are physically to match others around us. The differences is what makes the world go around. Why not try to change what you can, inside yourself.

Does that make any sense?

Deciding to place a high value on beauty, and also deciding that beauty is no less important than any other passion/avocation/talent/skillset/trait/lifestyle/etc.? Has nothing to do with changing yourself to match other people. That would be conformity.

If conformity / matching others around us/ is how you define physical beauty? Nothing wrong with that, but Its only one of thousands of definitions. Go to any world class art museum and find hundreds of examples of different definitions of beauty, from people who do place a high (or very high) value on beauty. In every sphere; the human figure just one of -again- hundreds. Nor is placing a low value on beauty in general, or physical beauty in particular, wrong. That's exactly the point. We're all different. And it's just as okay for you to place a low value and want to expend your energy elsewhere, as it is okay for someone else to place a high value.

If beauty is important to Jass? (Or Rodín, or Versache, or Anna Pavolva, Jimi Hendrix, Mario Batali, the preschool parent who frames her kids fingerprinting and praises his beautiful work?) Then it's not something she -or anyone else- "shouldn't" be doing, because changing herself inside is "better".
