The Chatroom Is Pretty Cliquey/selective. What Gives?

I'm surprised at how cliquey the chatroom is. I tried talking to people on there several times but nobody ever responds; even when people ask if there's anyone they can talk to and I volunteer, I just get ignored. Are there topics that off limits, like saying hi or needing PSTD support? I don't get it.

It depends who is in the chat room, as in real life, not everyone would always respond.

I don't feel it is, I'll talk with anyone who feels like talking. Sometimes it can get very busy and more then one. Conversation going on. I'm a slow Typer so I can get loss at times if it's moving fast. But I do hope you jump in:)

Like I said, I've tried it several times. I had hoped that unlike real life, where people don't understand what we go through, people here would be a little more keen on helping each other. Maybe that's expecting too much :/

I think you are reading way too much into it. There are very slow times for chat where no one responds to anyone because no one simply wants to chat.

Frankly, chat is good for distraction and not much else.

The forums are s much better place when needing support.

Several times I have seen posts like this. I haven't had much luck in there either and I have seen people get ignored plenty of times, as well so I don't go there anymore.

Naturally the ones in the cliques will defend it.

Like in real life, not every person will stop a conversation they're having to talk to someone else.
Personally if I see someone wanting to discuss their symptoms or whatever, I will leave chat.
For me, chat is a place to goofball around and simply enjoy being together in the special understanding that we all get it!
When heavy stuff gets discussed i cant handle it in real time and it stresses me out. so i have to leave.
i prefer those things go to threads or PM with consenting individuals who choose to get involved.

When i first joined the forum i did initially struggle on chat, mostly because i didnt know what to say and was a little afraid and almost paranoid that i was coming across the wrong way as a few responses or comments were left unanswered (Good old ptsd) I gave it another go and realised that this was due to sometimes a delay in responses loading to the forum, loads of people chatting at the same time etc etc. If i want to post something i have a problem with i would start a new thread as this is where more people check the forum and are more likely to get more responses and varied view. Im not saying chat isnt for asking for help at all, it just depends on what people want.

I don't like the speed of chat. Either too fast and I missed what is said, or too slow and no reply. I much prefer the threads and the opportunity to give a considered response, with the time to see what the issues are.

Consequently I give chat a wide berth.

Don't forget that many of us lack a stable internet connection, for example, many times I stopped responding for hours simply because my internet was stuck or computer freezing
