Flexeril For Sleep

I take 6mgs of tizanidine up to 5 times a day when I need it. It doesn't tire me out like other muscle relaxers that are weaker (such as Flexeril or Baclofen)
I don't think it is a good idea to take a muscle relaxer as a sleep aid, especially when there are other things out there on the market that are specifically targeted for sleep. Have you looked into ambien, lunesta or rozerem for sleep? (if you are looking for prescriptions)
@joeylittle had recommended Sound Sleep by Gaia for something OTC and had great luck with it.

Personally, Im taking Tizanadine for sleep because I cant take a sleeping medicine. Ive been on 5 and all make me sleep for days. At least through the next day. Ive never been able to get used to it, have muscle spasms anyway, and all Drs know I take it at night.

I wouldnt market muscle relaxers for sleep unless sleeping meds arent a good fit.

@Silver. - Thank you for the suggestions. I have tried both Ambien and Lunesta, the other isn't ringing a bell so I'll Google it. Also, thank you for forwarding the suggestion from @joeylittle. I'd much rather stay away from pharma as my system is really sensitive, so I will check this out.

Thanks to both of you. This is all so very helpful as I've tried so many drugs to no avail or had bad side effects. VB

@VioletButterfly - you can also look into Gabapentin, which is not a psych drug; it's prescribed for neuropathic pain, restless leg syndrome, and has a side effect of drowsiness.

If you've not tried prazosin, you should ask your doc about it.

But yes - I did well for awhile with the Sound Sleep by Gaia, and have also had some luck with extended release melatonin.

If you had bad reactions to the trazadone - specifically vivid dreaming - that's likely to continue to be an issue.

@joeylittle - Hi there. I remember your mentioning the Gabapentin once before. I will add it to the list and definitely am going to check out the more natural options as I don't have insurance right now. I'm interested to speak with the pharmacist. We'll see what she says and then I'll do a little more research on the meds and cost. Tks. VB

Depends on the dose and the person I think as taking 900mg three times a day (for neuropathy), drowsiness wore off fast and today, I dont even know I took anything short of the neropathy being better.

My dad kept the drowsiness (has diabetic neuropathy) so it honestly depends.

I agree there. I have massively vivid dreams.

Personally @VioletButterfly, with a shit ton of meds that can make you sleep, Id start with sleeping meds and work out from there. There are plently that do fine on sleeping meds.

If they are concerning to you, advise the Dr why and then let them prescribe from there.

My concern is going into a Dr with a long list of possible meds, you know? Certianly make the list for yourself to sort of know what worked for people and that way you can sort of check things off as suggest a med or two at the Dr. and stay activetly involved in your healthcare but the Dr is going to know what will likely work best with knowledge of issue, what didnt work and why and your concerns.

Some anti-depressents are given for sleep too.

It honestly depends on the person. I cant take sleeping meds so my pain Dr said to try to tizanadine at night only since it was making me tired and I learned it worked better then sleeping pills and my GP at the time was ok with it. Thats how I happened upon a muscle releaxer for sleep.

It wouldnt of been, and wasnt, my first choice and some muscle relaxers like Soma, are addicting. Flexiril is rather "low grade" but still.

When it's prescribed for sleep/restless leg, it's one dose a day in the evening only, between 300-900mg, which keeps the drowsiness from wearing off. Like all meds, it will not have the same effect on everyone.

@VioletButterfly - you can always try diphenhydramine (benadryl). It's OTC and doesn't require continuous use. I hope things go well when you see your doctor.

I HATE flexiril but I take Tizanadine for sleep, which is also a muscle relaxer and coupled w...

Be careful with Seroquel. Not only does it make you gain massive amounts of weight, I am an insurance agent and ALL of the insurance carriers I deal with will not accept you for coverage if you are on Seroquel after age 65

after age 65

Im 36

Insurence is covering it just fine. Some prior authorizations and some issue when the US first came out with generic Seriquel XR which was in Nov 2016 but otherwise they have covered it for the entire year ive been on it. Its a very expensive drug though without insurence. Around $500 for the 200mg Seriquel XR brand name. Unsure about generic but regardless its an expensive drug without insurence.

I take gabapentin. 300mg in the morning 300mg in afternoon and 1200 at night. It has never helped me with my sleep.
It has help me not have so much anxiety and be a little more even keel. The more intensely I was digging into my trauma.
Two weeks ago a woman at the gym saw me using therapy balls on my back and asked me if I had back pain. I said a little. She went away and came back with some pills wrapped in a tissue. She said they were flexeril and to try them.
I went home and took one at night with my gabapentin and it was the best nights sleep I had had in a year.
She continues to give me some and this past week I have found myself getting quietly high at home with these meds and adding pot.
I was honest with my t and my nurse practitioner who prescribes my meds (gaba) but neither seemed worried. Which I found crazy because I come from a family of addicts. Had my own stint with pills got off and clean. And a slippery slope is happening again.
My experiment concludes for me great with sleep when combined with gabapentin and I can also see if you have an addictive personality like me these could be habit forming.

I took flexeril... and yes the nightmares became really vivid.
Also there interactions with prozac and depakote..suicidal amd homocidal stuff.

Hey thanks info on weight gain.. i gained 27lbs since i began 100mg of seroquel.
Stuff dont work no more.

I began drinking liquid melatonin and i get a deeper sleep when i dont have nightmares.
