Assault Service dog and i were attacked tonight

I was walking to a class tonight. A dog ran down the street and attacked my service dog and myself. The other dog just kept comming after her. It was on a leash but the owner had no control of the dog, and the dog got free. It just kept comming after my dog. My dog and I are both going to be ok. I can't stop shaking. I'm at the vet, and maybe headed to urgent care next. I'm supposed to report it to animal control which means the police at this hour and that's a huge trigger. So are doctors. Vets I can handle though.

The vet said he is very surprised my dog fared so well. He said her service dog vest probably saved her because the dog kept lunging and bitting right where the vest was, and it has thick plastic backing under the fabric.

I did everything someone is not supposed to do during a dog attack but only have minor injuries. Maybe. I think the adrenaline is wearing off and I'm beginning to hurt.

Guy in car that was driving down the street stopped and drove my dog and I to the emergency vet a few blocks away. I can't seem to stop shaking and I'm terrified to go outside to even get in a car. This all just happpened about 1 hour ago. I'm so shaken. We are going to be ok though. Just need support. Or something. My brain is in full freak out mode now that I know my dog is going to be ok.

I am having a nervous break down about having to talk to the police. My mother just happened to call and I said can't talk now, dog attacked (my dog) and I, I'm at the vet gotta call animal control. She said. "Why would you bother calling them?" Why the hell is my mother in my life?

I have the info for the guy who drove us to the vet. The woman with the dog ran back into the apartment complex we were in front of - am I wrong to call animal control? The vet said I should.

No, you are NOT wrong! You absolutely should call animal control! I love my dogs, but am a big believer dogs should be taken care of and able to be handled so they aren't dangerous.

That dog sounds like a risk to all dogs and people in the neighborhood. I vote for calling animal control. It really sounds like that woman and her dog need some intensive obedience training. If he was on a leash, how did he get loose? That just should not happen. My dog would sometimes wrangle out out of her collar, so I got a harness and wouldn't take her out without it. She couldn't get out of that. She never attacked other dogs or people, though she might have licked them to death.

Eh, I also so know what it's like to have a non-supportive mother.

Do you have an anti-anxiety med you can take for tonight?

Oh god! Im so sorry @Justmehere! That's crazy! I hate it when people dont have control of their dogs! Pull them away dumb f*ck! (The other guy).

If i can be of any assitence, let me know! I dont even know what advise to give other than to go easy on yourself, self soothe, etc. Im so glad you both are ok. Get a tentus shot! :hug:

I'm home. My dog is home. They gave her pain meds. Called the police and they blew it off. Said an officer would call me to discuss it.

I'm so mad now... I am about to print 500 flyers to warn everyone in our neighborhood that a service dog and its handler were attacked by someone who was not able to control their dog and did not get help despite my dog standing in the street bleeding from her dog's attack. There is another service dog and many other gray dogs that live nearby and the dog that attacked, it just needs an owner that can handle it. They didn't even stop and now the police are not even doing what they are supposed to do and I'm just a joke. Come after me is one thing but not my dog. No way. I can't even breathe.

Yeah, cops dont do shit for a dog attack unless, of course, if its a pitbull or killed another animal or person. Otherwise they dont give a shit.

Ive worked with MANY animal aggressive animals. You work with a muzzle and you use special leashes and you dont let the dog out in normal neighborhoods without a muzzle. And certianly not near other animals. You selectively work with dogs that will help you work with your dog.

Anyway, retarded owner but im almost glad the cops arent getting too involved as mostly when ive seen cops involved, they dont just take the dog(s) away and fine the person, unless a good rescue jumps up (like Best Friend's with Michael Vick's dogs) they are normally put down or have VERY heavy restrictions put on them.

The animal pays for the ignorance of the owner.

Other end of the leash issue. You should report. Insist on a behavioral assessment for the other dog / actually the owner. Owner is a piece of shit. Yes dogs interact just like people inappropriately, however, a dog does not always have the resources to make good on a bad situation. The owner unleashed and fled? Not a good person, or caretaker. Report.
