@Terry W I've had a BFF for over 30 yrs. We did some big assed drinking together for a few yrs. I had been drinking since age 15, but when she and I got together, the drinking really got out of hand. We had sooo much fun together, and the drinking just increased the fun.

Then, I decided to quit drinking, and eventually I had to move on from the friendship. She continued to drink and party, and I stayed home focusing on getting sober. We eventually did hang out again, and many times she has mentioned that I need to have a drink. She knows she has a drinking problem, I know I don't.

I think it's possible to maintain the friendship with your friend, if you have strong boundaries, and your will to stay clean is strong. If not, then maybe take a break and resume the friendship when you have more strength.

It depends on what you are looking for, and what you're willing to work towards.

its easier to let some people go when you get sober as you realise you just plain do not like who they are.and then there are the people who you did really care about. this freind comes in this catagory . Yes yous are all right I knew deep down what the issue was and what I needed to do..the bottom line for me was..is this freind supportive of my sobreity . I was able to find this out so I was able to make a descision. cheers guys.
