as does the 2x a year "push" raffle.
What I think I prefer about the 2x a year approach is that it's focused.
Hey members, I just wanted to say that for those in the US, please remember the forum when getting tax returns!
We're way behind... let's hope by bumping up the thread, people will donate.....
Reading these last few posts I wonder.... Could it be, that the members are awaiting the announcement of another raffle? As, from my understanding, it (another raffle) kind of was on its way to get planned for 2017, or did I misunderstand this @joeylittle?....

@TreeHugger As I understand it, yes, there most likely is another raffle set for 2017. It was fun. But!!!!!! Why, does there have to be a raffle BEFORE people dontate???? Isn't having the forum, the work that @anthony and every mod does to keep the forum open enough??????

Since @anthony opened this forum, I believe it's grown beyond even his imagination and so has the cost of operation. He and @Nicolette encured the cost themselves for years. I think it's time that the forum community now steps up and supports the forum.

Ok, will now step down from my soapbox.

This is always a fallout of having a structured funding drive, of any kind. And it's a sort of damned-if-you-do/don't situation. When simply trying to allow people to remember to give...well, it's almost never going to reach goal without some kind of final push.

Once you start doing a push, people come to expect the push.

Ultimately, I'm happier doing organized pushes, because one can be a little more on-top of preventing donor fatigue. It gets really annoying when asking is constant, or unrelenting; I don't think anyone here wants to see that kind of hammering at the membership. So, striking the right balance between regular soft asks and periodic hard drives...that's my goal.

I think we are still in the post-holiday slump; it's a pretty traditional down-time for fundraising in general. Things do get easier when March comes around.

All of this is just to say - it's very much at the forefront of my mind, and I expect to be getting some funding activity going soon :)

Meanwhile - it's always great to bump up this thread. It's not always possible for people to plan to make a lump donation, but even things as simple as giving a few dollars once in awhile, they really do add up. I should be able to start stirring the pots a bit come Monday.

Speaking of donor fatigue and hammering at the membership... those of us who don't donate often or have never donated at all but have the ability to do so should remember that we have certain members here who consistently sustain us with regular donations. :notworthy:

This is correct.

I believe @Simply Simon's point was not to claim anything, but...
Oh I see that now.
It seems that I've been a half-step behind, these days. Sorry :(

I was focused, thinking of ways I could help in fundraising or something, if not directly donating. I've spent years working with nonprofits, even when I could not afford to support monetarily.
Also I don't think of tax refund as extra money but we all look at these things differently.
