For me, it is "We gotta get out of this place" by the Animals. It was (and still is) the song of the VietNam veteran. It was a long time ago before the term PTSD was defined in the DSM manual. I think in our day it was called VietNam stress or something like that. i understand the experience and have healed from my "stress", or at least I'd like to think so. Time, a lot of time, tends to heal.
So today, I try to help my spouse with her CPTSD. Often, I don't succeed. Maybe some of her issues remind me of a distant past.
But it does give me a sense of empathy. The Nation viewed us as murderers and shunned us at the time. But time tends to heal so I cannot in good conscious shun my sufferer.
So this thread made me remember a song about PTSD.....mine from a lifetime ago. Perhaps I should just sit with my spouse and tell her I'll be with her forever.
