I was listening to Ingrid Michaelson when her song, "Breakable" came on. I think it's so beautiful and I was really struck by some of the lyrics. They made me feel like she's singing about my experience with my sufferer. The whole song sounds to me like it could be about PTSD.

@Zanshin - I looked up Meatloaf's song and can definitely see how that could be about PTSD, not only because of his stories, but the main chorus could be about flashbacks and feeling the memories as intensely in the present as during the incidents.

@Junebug - I can see how the sinister tone of the first two and some of their lyrics could apply. My daughter and I love Imagine Dragons and that song! Fear the Reaper...When I've experienced panic attacks and general anxiety, it was this feeling like my life was in danger, but for no rational reason. I wonder if that has anything to do with why that song reminds you of PTSD? Story of My Life...I can totally see that one in every line. Very sad...great lyrics. :)

I appreciate that one because it's both the good and the bad that he refers to - it seems like he's trying to use the good memory of the "beauty living on the edge of town" to wash away the bad memories. I've fallen into that pattern myself, longing for some ancient good memory under the delusion that if I feel that strongly enough, it will undo the bad and I'll find my old self again.

Other songs - I feel like I should have a playlist of them by now... A lot of Blue October strikes me as such, I'll have to come back with more later and check out other suggestions, too. Great idea for a thread.

For me, it is "We gotta get out of this place" by the Animals. It was (and still is) the song of the VietNam veteran. It was a long time ago before the term PTSD was defined in the DSM manual. I think in our day it was called VietNam stress or something like that. i understand the experience and have healed from my "stress", or at least I'd like to think so. Time, a lot of time, tends to heal.

So today, I try to help my spouse with her CPTSD. Often, I don't succeed. Maybe some of her issues remind me of a distant past.

But it does give me a sense of empathy. The Nation viewed us as murderers and shunned us at the time. But time tends to heal so I cannot in good conscious shun my sufferer.

So this thread made me remember a song about PTSD.....mine from a lifetime ago. Perhaps I should just sit with my spouse and tell her I'll be with her forever.

Thank you for the thread.

Edit....yes, I am that old :)
