I'm curious.. how often do you meet with your T, is your T a trauma specialist, and are your topics of conversation in sessions meandering, depending on what is going on in your life, do you mostly process trauma/memories/symptoms, etc or is there an even mix of both?

We talk "around" what happened. Sometimes I share stuff from my journal. I hate having to read it out loud, but she insists that I do...uncensored. We talk about triggers and my reactions to stuff, mostly at work. My thinking can be pretty distorted. She helps me sort that out. She has her phd in pschotherapy, trauma specialist, cbt, spiritual counseling. She usually tells me something to think about or process through the week or she says some stuff that sits in my mind. She really seems to know the right stuff to say to make me process what is important to my healing.

We discuss behavioral methods. Something i want fixed :: Why I want it fixed :: Possible method to fix it. I often meander about things, as it can take several minutes to get comfortable enough to discuss something. We do not discuss trauma. Trauma was thirty years ago and is irrelevant.

Did you ever process trauma or did you skip that entirely? Is the structure entirely made up of "fixing" one thing at a time?

Do you stay with a theme for a while or just talk about whatever comes up in your journaling or throughout the week?

My trauma consisted of being raped by an acquaintance and the events surrounding it and then a lifetime of aftereffects since I never dealt with it when it actually happened. So... maybe that is the overall theme? We mainly talk about what comes up during the week. For example, one week brought on extreme anger, so the following week I was supposed to write down when I was angry and who it was directed towards. But then, the next appointment went a different direction, because that process led me to present day triggers and response that I needed to deal with. I am pretty sure my therapist has a plan and knows what she is doing, though sometimes I think she feels like it is her job to tie me up in knot on the inside.

Ok, sounds like mine. As in we go with whatever symptom is presenting itself. Which tends to feel so scattered, it's hard to measure progress. Just wondering if others had meandering sessions as well, or if it's more typical to have a trajectory that sessions follow.
