It is with all due respect that I say this. I sometimes have to wonder what good are we doing waging war in some of the places that we are. What will come of our fighting in Afghanistan? They will eventually go the way of all the people and countries that we try to help, become even worse enemies. Too many good men and women loose their lives and for what end? Are we really making the world better? Is that even a consideration? Many of these things remind me of 'Nam. The people we helped during the day were the ones we were shooting at at night.

JarHed, I completely agree. What's the point of this whole exercise? Especially now that they, our 'partners', are shooting us as we try to train them. Unless the 'coalition' is willing to stay in Afghanistan for about 5 more years and invest billions of more dollars, what has been done so far will make little difference. I hate to pessamistic, but that is the reality. To make a truly lasting change would take many more years and countless more lives.

As for the classified thing, calm down folks. There is nothing wrong about saying you work with the stuff. I've been doing it most of the past 25 years. Like I said after my post, I did not mean to type "classified"; I was out of it thanks to good meds. It was an error on my part. Anyway, relax and have a coffee.

There is so much that I'd like to say about the subject of 'war' but I don't want to do it in this thread and really make it go off in another direction. I will always have respect for the men and women that decide to serve their countries and go where they're assigned to do their job.

We all know the two rules of war; one people die, two you can't change rule one.

On the Afghan note. It probably does have a point, but not in any way anyone would really buy into. That piece of property has been wanted by every super power since Adam. And only one person in History was actually victorious there. Genghis Khan.................because he killed everyone and stacked their heads in little pyramids.

The British were fairly successful there and pretty much dictated to the country it's policies at times by proxy for nearly 40 years in the late 19th/early 20th century by smashing it's iron fist in to the place as required. But at least there was a point to it apparently, in that it was a buffer from Johnny Russian for the British ruling in it's jewel of India/Pakistan. Not sure on the latest chapter of the point.
