Wagon

Hello All. I'm Wagon.

I thought since there are so many new members on here and I am one of the bastards that polices around asking people for intro's, perhaps I should introduce myself again. I've been on this forum for over 2 years and at times it has been my primary care. Saved my life in fact.

I served in the US Navy active duty from 1986-1990. 2 Ships USS Fulton AS11 (built 1939) and USS Iowa BB-61 (Built 1942-43) During my 3 years 2 months and 20 days living on these ships I fought 8 fires, 2 serious floodings, and one weapons situation (dropped a nuclear warhead torpedo on a submarine....ooops). Yeah, Uncle Ronnies (Reagan) Navy was kind of a wreck. Trustworthy crew was few and far between because we were recruiting gang members, prisoners and the mentally challenged.

But the defining moments were probably when the Battleship gun turret blew up, powder flats started on fire and we flooded the ship so much we became unstable and came close to capsizing. Unfortunately that tid bit is all outlined in Wikipedia and they wrote a book and made a movie about it "A Glimpse of Hell" After that, one month later we deployed and ended up in lovely Lebanon. Spec ops, Russians, Syrians, Hezbollah....One big party.

I guess I can remember back something being wrong during my last 6 months in. I was a holy terror to the newbies we had. I even remember checking myself and thinking. "Was I bit over the top there, a bit too mean?"

When I got out...I was wild. Went to University and had no idea what anything was about. Alcohol and any drug that presented itself was my friend. Every single relationship ended in a train wreck. I feel sorry for most of those girls....most. After University I ended up homeless, completely off the grid and flat busted. Parents did not even want to talk to me.

Somehow I managed to get my shit together and ended up with a decent job in my field. That took me around the world allot. Working with ships. I had no idea this was a major trigger for me. ALL the triggers were in this business. Lose a ship..Wagon ends up drunk for days. My standard procedure was at least 7 pints, 3 to 4 shots of Jaegermeister and 2 hash joints per day.......and I still could not get to sleep. I was very overweight and basically just trying to slowly kill myself.

So my last hurrah's was being married with two kids and operating my own company. Then the wife left and I ended up suicidal and alone far from home and once again......homeless. Thats when I found this forum. My end was already planned out. I just had to take that walk. But finding out that there were others exactly like myself was a life saver.

So now it is over 2 years later and 24 years to the day since my last year of hell in the Navy started. I'm in the fight now. Lost 80lbs, and getting my life slowly back together. There are set backs, there is still that urge to drink myself into oblivion.....which I do every once in awhile. But I do know I don't fight this beast alone. It is an honor to be able to be here with such great people and be able to make progress and yes...sometimes fail.

Thats me.

Welcome to the forum Wagon.

Hope you find the help your looking for.

Just one question, Why were you married with 2 kids. Is that not illegal where you are, Out here in Germany you have to have an Adult female, or at least an Adult Male, which may well be more appropriate being navy and all.

Anyway, have a snoop around the site and beware the Alan

Hangtough Brother

:ROFLMAO:;)

In Germany you need permission from the Reichskindermachenmeister to have children. And you need to follow the manual.

If you've seen my mother in law you would be more inclined to go the male route.

You Bastard. :ROFLMAO:;)

Yeah, beware the Alan, brought down the Roman Empire, his lot.

I think you've re-located your stroppy button, mate.

Hey Wagon

Today is the anniversary of the IOWA turret explosion. Can't imagine what that must of have been like. Nice intro Bro.

Hi Wagon,

That is some journey and a good read.

I'm feeling the drink issues, I rarely drink, but when I do it's a week in :poop: state.

I hope this site can help me overcome my issues too:mad:

Nice to meet you

Re-welcome to the forum. :)

Ronny Raygun's military, too much $$, and not enough to do, at least at my first command that was shore duty (ya, I got lucky, first command was NAS PT. Mugu. California coast about 40 miles north of L.A.).

Mid 80's is when they started the Urinalysis program too. I joined in Feb 86, and served with a few too many who couldn't/wouldn't give up the smoke. Saw quite a few discharged because they got caught. Lots of "Sea Stories" of what they used to do.

Liquid lunches... had a few of those too. Especially on Fridays. Bust ass before lunch time to get all my work done for the day. Head to the package store, get a 12 pack, go to the beach on base, watch the ladies sunbath, knock back a few, go back to work for an hour or so, then leave early. Continue drinking at the barracks until passed out.

I really missed Ronnies Navy the rest of my time in...

Time machine. You and me swap places Barberian...all my problems solved. Umm it might suck for you though. And I would definitely not re-enlist, Hence avoiding your shit. I would advise you to break your leg and turn gay the moment you get orders to a battleship. There that fixes it, Two Beasts in one whack.

I saw every drug possible on a Navy ship before I saw it in the street. Drug tests, shmug tests. We had professional bookies working the odds. They only test 1 in 50 unless they had a unit sweep, then everyone. And the word went out before hand. Cocaine seemed to nab most of the guys. I knew a guy who re-enlisted for 4 years and got busted for coke a week later. Poor bastard. They screwed him hard. But dems the breaks when you f*ck around.

I was mostly clean. Never did anything at sea. Too much happens, even for a beer.

Welcome Wagon cocker. You know there is another ass on here with a similar story...even goes by wagon. Wait. ahem. ok I got it. It must be your cousin.
Semper Fi brother and hoist one for me. try not to bang your head to much.

You must have joined a different Navy Barby. Are you sure it was the US Navy?

Probably means US as in us and not you. LMAO.

Maybe the recruiters realised you would do better in the real part of the navy Wagon cocker, or maybe your tatse in music was the right one.

;)

Pt. Mugu from what I heard at the time was the most relaxed base on the west coast. The west coast is/was a cake walk compared to the east coast navy as far as how anal they are about everything. 3/4 of the base were civilians. So ya, I guess you could almost say it WAS a different navy. :p

P.S. This isn't to put anybody on the spot, it's happened many times by different people in different posts. I've mentioned it a couple times now. I know there is no intend to offend, but to all. If your gona abbreviate my name, pls use Bar. I'm not a woman "Barb" nor a doll "Barby", or "Barbie". Thanx in advance.
