It could be worse. "Hog Breath", "Dick Nose" "Baloney Dick" (i.e a one ensign Richard Maloney), "Mushroom Head", "What if", "Harry Dreadnaught" (mine. no f*cking idea why) "Stinky" (obvious) just to name a few.

No intention to offend. Call me whatever you want. Don't care.

It was only a request, do with it as you will. Um... and no, in person I was never called anything but Barber, Petty Officer Barber, or (rate/rank) Barber. I showed other people respect, and they showed me respect in return.

I hated shipboard nicknames. I was Fishnuts, probably because I was ALWAYS the dumb bastard on watch when water hours dictated shower time. After a while, well...lets just say it was good thing fresh skivvies were cheap to buy and few if any had to sit in the CIWS shop with me. Or perhaps it was meant as a joke as in those days the sound off large brass balls clanging together preceded my approach...:whistle:

As for drug tests....I had the ultimate loophole. In those days the Master-at-Arms and deputized duty section MAAs were the meatgazers, and thus excluded from drug testing as there was no one on board qualified to do so without there being a conflict of interest.( I hear tell they have actual, real MAs in force on all commands now. Never saw a real one when I was in...) Sea Lawyering? Yep. But it was policy back in the late nineties and early 2000s.:cool:

It was the least of my worries.

MA"s Christ. The dumping grounds for losers who could not make it in their own rating. The real losers were the Mess Deck MA's. Respect dodged them like the plague. Boots and Ensigns would not give them the time of day, Mess cranks would slag them off regardless of rank.

Sometimes I think the Navy was about how much disrespect you could get away with without the whole mess falling apart.

We had a replacement LPO for our department when we deployed. Unfortunately his reputation preceded him as he came with another guy from the same ship. Standard was to take all our ills out on him. His name was Howard, but we called him "Harney the Harness Horse" (Was strangely into harness racing horses....wanted to own one)

Every day. "Oh f*ck you, you Howard you tool" from at least 5 people in our department. Then the Navigator (Who was like Archie Bunker with PTSD) would abuse him as well. No respect up or down.
