Civvies With No Clue

I just thought i would share this,
A few years ago on remembrance day i had a bloke approach me and ask if i got my medals from ebay when i said no they were mine he went very quiet and walked away quickly.
Another time i had a bloke ask me if they belonged to a relative when i said they where mine his wife apologies' drags her husband away giving an ear bashing.
Here in the UK there are a lot of ignorant people who don't have a clue to what we go through or don't want to know if it hasn't happened to them it dint happen.

Speaking of civilians who have no clue, I have a story to share about that.

I was at a friends coming home party and some guy there caught wind that I was in the military as well. He started asking me all these questions, where I had been, how was it, how many times you been there, why do you do it, have you killed anyone before. I got really angry and started to jump down his throat, when my buddy came over and grabbed him and then kicked him out of the house. Its really shocking to me that people still ask these kinds of questions, I mean its just ignorant. I understand their curiosity but damn...

Yeh i get did you shoot any one but thats mainly from younger generation who think playing there Xbox & Play Station and think that playing games is the real thing !
If only they knew at least playing a game you can pause go and get a drink and sleep with out the fear of not knowing if you will wake up the next day.

I agree, there is no dying and respawning somewhere else in the game.

The secret to dealing with civies, is to either ignore their questions, or ask a personal question. Ask them if their misses shaves her pubic hair. If they say it's none of your business or it's personal, just say ditto.

I found that the best response to anyone asking me 'have you ever shot/killed anyone?':
'Why do you want to know?'

If you're respectful long enough most people typically get a clue and realize they're swimming in dangerous waters.

But if someone's bring deliberately belligerent... game on.

I like to think most people mean well, but I can't help but second guess them. It really is amazing the questions people will ask if they find out your a vet. I just really try to be polite, and if someone asks me a question I don't like I just tell them that's its inappropriate to ask that. On the other hand if their just being a dickhead on purpose then make them feel pain.
