C&p Exam With Ves Group

New Here
So I have a C&P exam for PTSD with a civilian Dr. here in a week or so.

Has anyone been through them, or any other 3rd party, for your C&P? I hear that the experience is a lot better, I am hoping so because it's hard for me to even sit in therapy groups sometimes so I can only imagine how this is going to go.

I've been through 3rd party exams for both PTSD and cancer as a result of agent orange exposure. Mine were for compensation consideration.

The PTSD exam was long and drawn out, but not as tough as some of the therapy sessions. The doctor told me several times that we could take a break any time I wanted.

I'd suggest you get an advocate if you don't already have one. Most veteran's organizations either have them on staff or can tell you how to find one. Mine is from The Order of the Purple Heart. He used to work for the VA, and has been a great help leading me through the bull shit. The system is a real bitch. It really helps to have some one who knows the territory.

I went to a civilian Dr. for my C&P exam. He just basically reviewed a lot of things on my file and asked about my life I suppose. I explained the difficulties I was having etc he asked if I thought I was able to work. I said yea. We spoke for awhile he seemed understanding. A year and one failed relationship later I received my rating lol.

Yea, by advocate im assuming you mean VSO? I have the VFW currently as my VSO which is honestly the only reason I really think it is being expedited after all this time.

I had my psych eval for C&P with a VA doctor. He was through and professional. He asked me ton of questions.

I did see an outside doctor for an initial PTSD eval. He was great and really helpful. I credit him with helping me the most towards a good rating and suggestions for treatment as well.

The only thing I'd suggest is what was told to me; be honest with them. Psychologist listen and hear what you say and often what you are not saying if you take my meaning. That's really their job and it's how they're able to help. By focusing on what you may infer but not say directly.

Best of luck with the process and be patient. It will take longer than you'll want it to before you get your rating. If you can see a doc on an individual basis it might be more helpful than a group at this point.

I filed for SSDI. I had no contact with the VA at all. I did 4 years of therapy with county mental health therapists. They were not a ton of help but once I filed for the Social Security, it went through in less than 6 months. I suspect the therapist's notes had a lot to do with that. They called my PTSD severe and complex. Meaning I have had a lot of different trauma to deal with. And that my symptoms are some of the worse they had ever seen.

I suspect that had I been going to the VA I would not have gotten those types of comments in my therapy notes and SSDI might not have ever happened. I applied for the VA disability. I was given 10% after 1.5 years of waiting. They denied the PTSD at all.

I didn't bother to refute the claim. I really would rather work on getting better and going back to work. I don't know if I can or not but I want to try. I am not very tolerant of the VA or its methods of treatment. its very inept.

Yesterday I was out driving and some guy cut me off. I had to hit the brakes hard to avoid not rear ending him and he pulled out in front of me.

I saw red. I only wanted to react with extreme violence. I wanted his death in retribution. I started to follow him and then my wife yelled at me. She saw what was going on in my mind and what I wanted to do. She startled me a little and I snapped out of it.

Later I thought about what happened. I wanted to kill someone who almost caused a car crash. I might have even done it had my wife not said something when she did I was that angry.

that's the list of questions for the C&P

Sapper, C&P is the VA's qualification exam for combat related PTSD. It provides guidelines for the interview to develop a more systematic evaluation to PTSD. It can help to develop if there is multiple or a single incident. It is also used to help flush out the people who are making false claims. So the questions can be very hard. Most guys go into a rage at some point during the interview due to the types of questions.

If you ever have to go to one don't hold back. Talk honestly about what are the trigger(s) and why you think you developed the PTSD.

Honestly, the VA just needs to start doing PET scans. The brain shows the changes of PTSD. It would not require all this qualification crap. Either you have it or you don't.

That article on PTSD is some serious reading. There are a lot of areas covered. The discussion on the regeneration of the hippocampus and the use of seizure medication helping that process is pretty interesting. I think there is a lot of knowledge in that article of the direction nuropsychological medicine is going. Doctors need to conduct a lot of different trials to better understand the changes we are affected with. Lucky for them there is a LARGE batch of new test subjects coming into the pipeline with OIF/OEF.

Lucky for them.

Hopefully mine doesn't take as long as yours did, I'm already working on failed relationship #3. lol

Godspeed bro, a vet I met in school at that time told me a story of his buddy who ended up taking his life unfortunately during the waiting period. His mother received the rating and compensation with back-pay for time waited a few weeks after he was gone.
Hang in there man. It will come.

Many make the mistake of telling the examiner how they feel at that moment. You need to keep in mind what it is like when you are at your worst. They will not compensate you for when you're feeling good but when you are at your lowest. DO NOT show up in a business suit like you're applying for a job. If you spend most your time in a torn shirt and shorts and sandals, then show up that way.

I am not asking you to lie about anything, but rather show the absolute truth. This is an ugly disorder, show the ugly.
