Internet Is Shit Tonight

Ok, here's a laugh for this morning. I still have a flip phone. Just can't justify or find the need for a 'smart' phone. And I have a pay as you go plan, it works for my needs. I'm mostly home so I have a desktop and laptop there to access the internet.

But I built my last two pc's and I'm currently constructing a 'raid' server to store all my photos and music. So, I love the tech aspect. I know eventually I'll get a smart phone, just not for a while. We've come light years from dial up.

Eventually you'll get forced to a smart phone. I would guess within the next 5 years the 3G/1x carrier you flip phone uses will be obsolete. If the carriers had their choice I probably would be now. It's much more expensive for the carrier to carry the 3G/1X network than LTE/AWS/VoLTE

I'm sure you're right Griz, it's just a matter of time. I'm a tech and tool using person but always try to use what's appropriate for my needs. Right now a simple phone does the job.

I'm with you Jar. The wife and I just got new Samsung Convoy 3's. We had the first Convoy for 4 years, and the wife's would not ring in on a call. Was told our old phones need upgraded, so we did. Now sometimes one or the other will not ring in on a call.
Oh, we also have internet & text turned off. We like the PTT....f*ck Verizon, but it's the only game in town that works.

J R...........I liked my old 6 watt Brick Phone...........LOL

The old bricks did work well as a backup rock when needed. I've still got my iPhone 5, and can't justify the 5s or 6 at present. My 5 makes calls, does SMS and works for the few apps I actually use when out and about. I don't really have a habit of using my phone to read the internet from. When I'm out, then I'm normally engaged in being "out" and not online. When I'm home, I use my desktop... nice big screen, keyboard and mouse, just the way I like things.

I'm on a basic $50 a month plan for my phone, no contracts, free calls between ourselves, lots of call credits per month... way more than I ever come close to actually using, a gig of data, again... I don't come close to using that either... so I just can't justify the cost to change.

I think I'm actually going to stick with this phone until I drive it into the ground and can just toss it in the bin due to no longer working.

I remember when I got this phone a couple of years ago... always in a case, which made the stupid thing bigger than it is, which I hate. Worrying about how much they cost and not damaging it... and now, no case which is brilliant (light and easy to use in the hands) and I don't give a shit whether it gets marks on it or not, as I'm not planning now to sell it on ebay due to upgrading to the latest thing and repeating the same process.

When I kill this one... then I'll buy a new one and do the same to it I think. I'm just over the cost of phones, plans and all the crap that comes with them nowadays to just be stressed from being connected to the f*ckin world 24/7. YUK!

Yeah, I'm with you Anthony. When I'm out I like to be out. Don't need the constant input.

I was at a large garden in my area over the weekend photographing. It's called Longwood Gardens if you'd like to google it, it's pretty amazing. I was sitting taking a break and of course watching people, a fun thing to do at times. I can't tell you how many were walking around in that zombie like state looking and fooling with their phones. Here you are in this place where everywhere you look there's amazing beautiful things and they're on their phones. I'm sorry but put the phone away and just look at where you are and enjoy that. Nothing can be that important that you have to check your phone constantly. Makes me shake my head.

The phone is the new tool. It allows people to not have to socialize. Its the "I'm too busy to make eye contact." tool.

Take texting. Proven fact, more people text than talk. The wireless industry never ever forecasted this phenomenon in the early days. Now carriers have more text minutes processed per mobile than voice minutes.

Missus does the same shit... annoys the hell out of me. She goes out and is so focused on taking pictures of where she is, she misses most of where she is trying to share moments with the world... so she can think she is normal and with it, or something, doing what all others do. Pisses me off bad. I then ask her if she saw this, that, x, y, z... which she doesn't, then tell her why, but she doesn't change.
