A question for those with a disability

Sufferer and disbaled are not always the same thing. Many sufferers are disbaled by PTSD, many are not disabled.

I prefer person with a disabilty but I care way more about the tone and intent of whatever I’m called.

I would hate to be called wounded or injured. I dunno why... I know others prefer it.

Illusionist who is hard of hearing and a bit crazy
I personally hate all these terms, as they change.....when you get to my age you lose track of terms that are socially acceptable and spend half your time worrying if you've offended someone, though it was never the intent.

So I will stick to hard of hearing and a bit crazy, for me personally, cos that's what I am.

I have trouble with the connotation of wounded, which to me sounds like a flesh would. I’m broken. Not wounded. Then again I detest all this PC labelling nonsense. I’m mentally ill. No point in sugarcoating it. I also equally dislike victim or survivor, which always struck me as either two sides of the same coin or simply semantics. We’re all mentally ill with PTSD. Own it.

Yup!

I have an illness (ptsd) that massively impairs my ability to function in the community in a regular way. I use an Assistance Dog to get around. I live off the Disability Support Pension.

Pretty sure that makes me disabled. Or a ‘person with a disability’. I have no idea what the difference between those 2 statements is. But when I run my situation through the Reality Tester: Ragdoll has a disability. I’m not entirely sure why that’s a big deal...???

@EveHarrington I get what you are saying, I just don't like the other terms mentioned. It's a hard question. I don't like mentally ill because it isn't in the same classification as other mental illnesses that occur naturally. it is a mental injury. Bad shit happened to us to cause it, we didn't just develop symptoms out of the blue.
