So I've read about different theories for parts, which has evolved over the years, and in DID still a f...

I think you’re perhaps confused.

DID and IFST are very different.

DID is a diagnosis.

IFST is a kind of therapy.

Yes, it is important to differentiate.

DID treatment is not the same as IFST. Yes, the label DOES matter. (And in this case it’s not a label per se. IFST isn’t a label. It’s a therapy.) People with DID often require a much higher level of care, especially those who are not Co-conscious. IFST can be done on your own, without a therapist.

Please don’t confuse the two. I suggest doing research on your own in order to determine what each entails. If you’re still thinking IFST and DID are not all that different, keep going in your research. The “parts” are very different concepts. The unfortunate thing that gets people caught up is that they both use the word “parts”.

Just picking your brain, trying to straighten mine out......
So I get IFST a treatment (I knew that when I wrote the response but it doesn't read that way-been up too many hours from high doses of steroids..for my breathing.) what is it IFST treatment best practice for....what diagnosis (es)?
What, in your opinion, is best treatment for DID? EMT, CBT, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, other? Thanks for hanging your answer out there.

is pigeonholing a diagnosis really that important or is it more important to focus on behavioral strategies and coping skills, parts function, and normalization?
For myself, it was important to know the labels, just so I could get a grip on what I was dealing with. For instance, I had a couple of things going on that I needed to understand first.
1. Catatonia
2. Co-consciousness

I had no idea what had been happening to me, so in order to launch into getting to how I was going to deal with these life crushing issues, I had to `know my enemy`so to speak. Once I had a game plan I left it the way you were saying. Labels didn`t matter, just working with my strategy and putting one step in front of the other.

Bkinder - IFS therapy
Internal Family Systems Therapy
I hope this helps!

When I read that same text, I got the Golden Rule: "Do unto your parts as you would have them do unto you" message loud and clear. It's a be kind to self model....which makes good common sense to me. Talk positive, grow positive....talk negative, you'll just get more negative....I've got enough of that.

Does the label itself really matter?
I think labels have a place but they don't necessary define you. For me the label was important because part of my coping skills are to research research research. Knowing what I was researching for was helpful (although I did end up learning things I could have lived without!). I think its also beneficial as part of the treatment program - how do you know which treatment works best if you don't know what's wrong?

I think it depends on the person. These are all great treatments but they won't work the same for everyone. For example -- Art therapy for me would be a total frustration because I can barely draw a stick figure. Trying to draw out how I feel would be a nightmare. So instead I'm starting equine therapy. Your T will probably have you play with different kinds to find the ones that work best for you

Talk positive, grow positive.
