[Abstract]

I have to agree with regarding a professional who list everything and more in their shopping bag with suspicion. I tend to go to their website or profile and see what they mention. If trauma isn't fundamentally a key part of it then I wouldn't bother. I too have been turned away. Especially when it comes to charity care. On that note, countries differ but is there a trauma focused charity or oraganisation that you could contact? In the UK this tends to be a safer approach. There tends to be a level of understanding and sometimes specific training. At least one knows people are open to treating it. Also always ask if they can recommend alternatives if they pass you up, Be VERY VERY grateful if someone turns you away if they feel they don't have the knowledge. The alternative isn't good.

I would also suggest you do a google search for psychologists who specialize in trauma, PTSD, EMDR, care for military members and their families. Mine was head of the mental health department on his base. Before he entered into private practice. So Do search for PTSD and trauma specialists...and preferably a psychologist.

Myofascial Release (John Barnes Method) had been very helpful for unwinding my trauma. Another good group are therapists certified in Somatic Experiencing. Good luck.

If I had it to do over again, I would only use a therapist who belongs to this organization. There is a "find a therapist" tab.

- I live in a midsize city of about 2 million.
- There are approximately 2,000 therapists in private practice who list PTSD &/or Trauma.
- Only about 200 are trauma therapists.
- Zero of them have experience with my trauma history.

It’s just geography. If I look about 5 hours away, there are quite a few (dozens) who have a ton of experience in my stuff. So that’s what I did, when I could. How I got there was going through batches, each time extending my search criteria further out.
