Hi, my doc prescribed 100mg sertraline 2 and half weeks ago, I’ve only taken 50mg every day as I know side effects with these can be horrendous, side effects have dropped a bit, still very anxious, just wandering if now perhaps I should go up in dose as he did state 100mg, just wanted peoples opinions on these tablets and I know it varies from person to person, many thanks

Are you getting benefits from the current dose? Do you think you need additional help from the medicine?

Docs prescribe based on the dose that helps the average joe. Some people can get benefits from far lower doses (I am one of these people.)

Sertraline used to make me feel really edgy and anxious.

Have you spoken to the prescribing doctor?

One of the joys of anti-depressants is it isn’t a simple case of ‘smaller is safer’. In many cases, a smaller dose will give you side effects that you don’t want, without actually reaching a therapeutic level in your system, in which case it’s no more helpful to your mood than a placebo.

If you found that the side effects at 50mg waned after a couple of weeks, it may also be a similar story for higher a dose.

Your prescribing doctor is best placed to give you advice about the right dose for you:)

Hi. I am on this too. What they did for me is they started me off on 25mg, then gradually increased to 50 (and I would initially get sleepy), then to 75 (really, really sleepy), then to 100 and finally 125mg (stomach issues as side effects...to the point where I couldn't stay at/go to work). So then, he lowered it to 50mg, but added Wellbutrin at 125mg...or was it 150...That really messed with me and I was only on it for some 3 weeks. So then I was on only 50mg of sertraline again. I then started feeling the symptoms more again and getting really depressed, so he upped it to 75 again. That seems to have plateaued now too and now I am just starting at 100mg again. I feel like the Wellbutrin really messed everything up. I am hoping to lower it again eventually but who knows if it will work.

Anyway, good luck with it. I hope it works. I think he said the most they give of this to anyone is 250mg (I could be mistaken. It was a while ago).
