Sufferer New, looking for others with DID

New Here
My name is Mel, I've lurked a little on this site but not much. My alters noticed each other midway through high school so we've got a considerable amount of knowledge about our own system and its workings, though I doubt anyone with DID feels like they know much about their own mind haha. I'm not looking to really go into detail about trauma necessarily but talking about trauma and DID are often one and the same.

I'm especially looking for others with communicative systems-- I'm lucky enough to live with another, but they have far less communication than I do and therefore can't relate to my specific experiences that come with alters talking to each other on the regular/ having familial relationships/friendships.

I have tips to offer on communication within your own system and ways to avoid hurting each other (based on hindsight), if anyone's looking.

Hi, @melsdid! Welcome to the forum!

I have a dissociative disorder and PTSD. We're a stable & communicative system of nine parts. Some I have known about for a long time (Little Wendell); others have surfaced only in the past few years. We're all working at dealing with our PTSD, and we work pretty well together now.

If you want to chat about communicative systems, you can post here:
Other Disorders
and tag as "DID".

Oh thanks, I wasn't sure where people talked about it on here. :>

No not really.
Both are trauma stemming disorders, aka root cause...

But so could be said about almost anything in DSM/ICD for mental health.

Gotcha, guess it makes sense when I think about how not everyone with trauma has PTSD. Either way, PTSD wasn't something I thought I had until... I dunno, a few months ago? Definitely not originally what I assumed came with DID.

How did you find out you have PTSD a few months ago @melsdid ?

Just curious bc you said your DID was self diagnosed.

I do hope you seek treatment for what you're struggling with.

I'm in the process of finding a therapist but I'm unemployed, have virtually zero support from my family and my insurance is crap for mental health so it's slow going. Getting better, but slow.

After we were left by our abusive partner we came to the conclusion that our alter Logan had PTSD as a result of the abuse, based on his symptoms (not gonna list them all but I'd say our flashbacks were the biggest tell). It was then we realized we all have varying degrees of the same symptoms but not only due to the abuse from our ex.

Excuse me if I'm a little defensive haha. I know self dx can be pretty controversial but I've done my research and I've experienced being wrong about my own mental health before, I'm not jumping to any conclusions. Until pretty recently we'd been living in denial about it all.
