Just got our second confirmed case.

Fortunately for me, the people I'm around/talking to day-to-day -- my family, boyfriend, labmates, flatmates -- are all remaining very level-headed.
It's just "the general public" that I'm concerned about, in terms of spreading the hysteria.

On the plus side: I was just talking to one of my flatmates, who is from the Philippines, and she said that she's very non-fused about the possibility of a toilet paper sell-out, because over there they use bidet, anyway.
I asked her that if it does come to a toilet paper sell-out, could she teach me the basics (bidet noob, here). And she said yes. Sorted :tup:

Other flatmate is an Italian microbiologist, whose family were just visiting last week from Italy. I think they were most excited to be able to drive out of Milan on a Saturday when they landed, with no traffic.

Amazon cracking down on price gouging and products making false claims

Apparently signs and symptoms are a higher than normal fever than the common cold. Many reports of people without symptoms though. Basic hygiene and asepsis as is ops normal for cold/flu season.

The false claims thing is insane. One media "news" group is telling people they need to buy this silver liquid advertised on their channel by their own reporters. I'm still not sure if you are supposed to drink it or clean with it but I couldn't believe when they said "it will kill the coronovirus within 12 hours and you won't get sick."

Then one of their commentators said ... the virus came from Chinese people eating bat soup because bats carry all sorts of viruses and eating them makes you sick and no one in the "civilized" would do that. Civilized world??? :banghead:

More reputable sites are having to tell people not to drink bleach because that's a "cure" , going around on the web. They also had to reassure people they won't get it by eating Chinese food or knowing someone who is Chinese.

We have had such a huge run on toilet paper that it's super hard to get. Fine for me, I have enough. I was at the grocery store to get lettuce for my guinea pig. I noticed there was a very small amount. A bit later I saw a lady holding four or five different packs of toilet paper. People are weird.

Just go search on amazon for anything in high demand. The price gouging is INSANE!

eBay is cracking down, supposedly, too. They sent out a warning that if you use words like “coronavirus”, “epidemic”, “covid-19”, etc, you’re at risk for having your account suspended. I read it and was like FFS, people are wretched.

My mom wants to be prepared so I helped her with shopping, making sure she had enough non-perishables, etc.

I just hope it stays faaar away from my area for awhile. I have a hard time recovering when an illness goes to my lungs. I’m at 2 months out from my last sickness and still not recovered. It would suck to be hit while I’m already down. :-/
