That allergy season is going to totally panic people! :)

Yep! Hubby is allergic and also sensitive to cold. He's been having a runny nose and sneezing nonstop. You have to see people's faces. :hilarious:

I get a super soar throat from sitting in A/Ced rooms all day.

As I keep saying, those "mild" symptoms that the vast majority of people will get are so extremely generic... but now everyone assumes you definitely have corona ... common sense has left the building. Seriously.

Nope we are way over the hayfever season & are hurtling right into Autumn & Winter here thus the 'flu' season. But idk if there is a real season for it anymore because I had a influenza like virus just after Christmas which is in the middle of summer? And I was really very ill. Nothing like running a high temp when the ambient temp is also really high.. ugh..

My brother just left a hotspot for the virus, to go to a different country. I am so disgusted with him bc he could have it and not know and now he left just to carry it elsewhere. He claims he isn't sick but he could carry it. Its selfish. He knew not to go there but did anyway.

Well the prime minister in Italy has locked the country down. Nobody in, nobody out. So as soon as everyone heard that, they jumped in their cars and headed to other parts of the country. Why? Spread it around?? And started panic buying too. Why.. nobody knows because the stores are all open and there's no restriction on going to buy food. hmm...

So it seems you're brother is not the only one not understanding how this virus works @Rumors

Ok- I sort of get the mentality of this. A lot of people live in metropolitan areas in Italy but it’s not where their ‘homes’ are. If you are going to be on lock down ( which in fact they aren’t so much because People are still going to work etc) you might want to do it at ‘home’ .

In italy there was - I don’t know if there still is - but I am not talking ancient history- a spike in poor outcomes from health problems in August - because everything shuts down for the summer break - people go on holiday or ‘home’ . Those leaving now might be thinking it will be like that now. Or that leaving built up metropolitan areas for coastal or mountain towns of home / holiday - with fresh air might be healthier.

Do I think it’s foolish ? Of course- But I also understand why and that the culture is significantly different to US or even a country of comparative size like UK .

Am I the only one here who is bothered about opening F1 race at Melbourne this weekend and no Ferrari?

Well not really. In the respect that none of them should be here? The event should be cancelled.

If other countries can see the sense in not running these events to control the spread of the virus then why can we not see it? I'm thinking there will be a spike in cases post grand pre. Ferrari team decided it was too risky. They're sensible imo.

I think the biggest challenge we will have in the states is sick people will go to work because they have no other option and many, many businesses don't offer sick leave and health insurance is super spendy. I

So there is no option for staying home if you want to pay the rent. My sister is in that group - if she's off work it's no pay and her deductible for her insurance is $3000. Ya - that's not a typo. She has to pay for the first 3k before her insurance kicks in. That's really common in the US.

We were just talking about it last night - she may have to choose between infecting other people, getting sick herself because her immune system is comprised by cancer or keeping a roof over her and nephews head and food in the fridge. It's a no win for her

I am wheezing, coughing, I sound horrible. It’s a mast cell problem that I’ve had my whole life... it’s just flared up at the moment. My doc just prescribed steroids, something we avoid like the plague... but since people are fearing covid-19 more than the plague, and I’m getting worse every day, it was time to give the steroids a short round. Working on getting me off public transit in a hurry. Partly concern about my catching covid-19 but more for general safety since my cough gets evil stares, and things are likely to get much worse in my area than better.

I have to admit, I feel stressed. Not being able to breathe well is a trigger and it’s been part of trauma in multiple ways. Here I am with others nervous about how well I’m breathing. There isn’t cause to suspect I have covid-19 and I don’t qualify to be tested. I’m not concerned I have it but I am concerned how hard we are fighting to get respiratory meds refilled.

Friends know I’m ok. They say they know I cough time to time and I’m good at staying away when actually sick. They are also being protective. Telling me if I need to be pulled out of living alone in the high density urban area I’m in, they’ll come get me. They are not worried about covid-19 but panic about a girl with a chronic cough.

I do well with immediate crisis situations and I especially do well when I’m able to act. Do something. Or I can help others.

I don’t do well with “threats” that are far off and I’m unable to do anything about.

I’m really delighted there is a greater public understanding of staying away from vulnerable populations like me when sick. Right after a recent surgery, I had an infection took and my immune system was down for the count, and the number of friends who tried to visit my whole actively sick... I had to start being very clear, you can’t come near if sick and people took it personally. Now people are getting it. Stay home if sick.

I struggle with how reassuring it is to many that only the sick or elderly are at much risk of death. I’ve started being open that waits minute, this isn’t time to panic but their (my) increased risk of death shouldn’t be the reassurance of others but the cause to pull it together and protect the most vulnerable. I’m glad to see that the message of “don’t panic but act to protect the most vulnerable” is replacing the “no worries only the sick and elderly die.”

This blog author reflects some of the problem in the messaging well:
“Disabled people are always an afterthought, never built into the messaging of a pandemic. Actually, we’re arguably built out of the messaging and used specifically as examples for why healthy people shouldn’t be concerned.
Phrased differently, chronically ill people are marketed as everything someone does not want to be during a pandemic.
Why? Because our lives literally aren’t considered worth protecting via public responsibility. It’s “every man for himself.”
‘The Cripples Will Save You’: A Critical Coronavirus Message from a Disability Activist

There are break-ins at hospitals happening in my state and there haven’t been many cases. (Granted very few are being tested and that will soon spike when they soon start to test many more people.) which pretty dumb ass stupid because of someone gets really sick you’ll want doctors that didn’t have be to be quarantined because you took their equipment so they can’t use it and got sick themselves.

I can’t even discuss work at the moment. I have high public contact at work and we will be one of the last to ever close, if at all.

The memes about on TP runs around the world are good comedy in a weird time in history. Just all the funniest memes from The Great Australian Toilet Paper Panic of 2020.

I'm in a small town in VA. They are putting some restrictions on water in a few places...but not toilet paper. Can't find hand sanitizer-you know the cheap kind.....it's all bought up! But it will be school closings soon....one kid gets it......no more class....but kids with computers will be forced to do their school work at home. Schools are already getting plans for homestudy in many places-just in case. Don't know what will happen to those without internet.

So.... I woke up much sicker today. Now I do have a cough. I also am having asthma symptoms. Dunno about fever, I don't own a thermometer but definitely had chills. Called the doctor. Was told to go get tested for Covid. They don't want me to come in there. There's a testing station not too far from my home. I went. I was briefly in the waiting room with a pair who'd been exposed. They didn't seem sick at least. I was clearly sick. None of us had face masks. No place around here has them and they didn't give them to us there. I know at the veterinary clinic we I work are very worried about running out. So I understand not handing them out willy nilly but as sick as I am, it seems like I should have been given one. The lady who admitted me had been trained 30 minutes before I came in, so they may still be figuring things out.

I got tested. Told results will come in 3 or 4 days. Meanwhile, I'm sick as crap and unless I get sicker the doctor doesn't want to see me. And if I get sicker I'm supposed to go to the emergency room. That will cost me hundreds even though I have insurance. And I am missing work and should self-isolate until I get the test back. And if I do have it and have to isolate for two weeks that's way more paid time off than I have. So I won't be getting paid... unless the governor does work something out. I know there's a possibility.

@Justmehere I'm sorry you're dealing with that. Interesting point about the messaging. Although I've heard a lot that I would take as focused on folks who are vulnerable, not reassuring those who aren't. (Badly phrased, can't think how to say it better). I have known vulnerable people for ages so maybe it's just how I perceive the messaging.
