My large apartment complex is refusing to take any precautions. I am stunned. I am furious. I want to raise holy hell. We are right next-door to a nursing home. I’ve called the local public health apartment is of course overwhelmed. The complex wanted me to come in person to pick up my packages. In a tiny office. I showed up outside coughing calling begging they bring them outside. They eventually did and said they have no worries. Uh. Asses. I’m on 8 meds to keep me breathing. The city is shut down but they are not. The gym pool etc all open to over 3,000 people.

@Justmehere

On another hand, Venezuela & most of Latin America go from one crisis to another... and on the ground people are used to fighting everything from viruses to their own politicians with vigor.

I have faith in Latin Americanos ;)

Boo your apt complex altogether.
And all the thumbs up & serious good wishes to your keeping yourself breathing and above water.

The latest Michigan news...

65 people have tested positive.

UAW to meet today about the virus and the safety of their employees. Multiple people test positive.

Bus drivers refused to work this morning. The Mayor put them back to work and it is now free to ride. ?

Now that everyone has hoarded food and essentials, people are starting to help each other. Crazy! Hopefully things don't escalate.

Food donations are coming in. ❤

Dollar General is making their first hour open to the elderly.

My family plays the stock market a lil bit and my niece made a nice chunk of change overnight. (I wish I had disposable income!!)

Carry out is available at restaurants.

I had an issue at work today. Someone left early saying his daycare called and his child has a cough and he needed to come get them. So my question (to my manager) was... What is the company's protocol? Will they let him come back tomorrow? Personally, I don't want him back until he has a note from doc with the all clear. His answer was that he didn't know. This is all new to him. (No s#it, Sherlock. Seriously? They haven't even discussed a plan?) I told him someone has to sterilize his work station. It was the end of the day so I obviously didn't get the answers I wanted so I WILL be going to HR in the a.m. This makes me pretty upset. I work in the automotive industry. With alot of people who don't have any clue what sterile techniques are. What are your thoughts?

Take care!!

@LuckiLee what about rapid teach outs of the basics / online or alike on distance so you aren't just another gathering of people, and then reinforcing what was just learned hard?

How old are most of ya coworkers & how tight together? Similar age groups & in group solidarity can do fricking wonders in helping people adopt new procedures.

Heck, even getting the most socially admired & aspired-to-be-like guy on board with you can do a lot.

And if anyone whines you're a chick & such pride issues... you defer to respect & pride: Sir, I mind because I value years of your hard work, professionalism, experience, care, (every good trait you can think of) and this is allowing me help putting all of your qualities to yet better deeds. ;)

Or anything else you can think of.
You help out J with everything, daily.
I don't believe supporters of vets are resourceless and not persuasive ;)

Y'all rock the hardest & hats off.

Taiwan closed off travel from China the day the US did. Everyone is wearing masks and.they have hand sanitizer everywhere . One death and very low infection rate as of today.

What Taiwan can teach the world on fighting the coronavirus

So I'm back to thinking the hysteria is worse than the bug and I shut the news off, and my anxiety is better today. Probably if we wore masks and gloves and separated the people who get sick and washed our hands life could go on without shutting the whole world down. Common sense in other words. But the common sense shelf was empty.

I'm not saying either way? I'm just saying.

Called the org that insures the apartment complex. I figured they would care the most about an outbreak. I could barely breathe to talk. I just said I was calling about precautions at the complex and a little concerned. They started to yell at me they were doing blah blah... YELL. All things not done... they are stressed. I didn’t argue. I could barely speak as is. When then calmed down I said only, please keep at it. She calmed down and said she’ll continue to figure out what else they can do. I ended the call. Public health actually stepped in and spoke to them too just now, as education, and things are getting locked down here at the complex right now as I type. Governors orders anyhow. I’m surprised and a little scared about the speed. It’s a good thing but shit... people are scared.

Have you heard the rumour that Tom Hanks died in one of our hospitals? If so, be aware it's not true.
In the midst of all the bad info and trolling on social media came a story saying Tom Hanks and wife were never sick but that they had been arrested for child trafficking. :banghead: I hate people. just sayin.
So I'm back to thinking the hysteria is worse than the bug
Yep. Hysteria is going to kill more people (fights/car crashes/dvs/etc) than the bug can.

I was talking to people living in places where there is not already panic buying. We stockpiled in advance. Long before the panic buying started. Actually we started prepping a long time ago before we even heard of corona and thought of things like black outs.

I agree with this. Stock up a supply of food that you rotate through. Why? Well, in my area, hurricanes. Also, a worldwide event like this.

I am a prepper. Mainly for hurricanes. And I started with non-food items as my issue after hurricane Irma (which I was very not prepared for) was charging things and not being able to cook and water. So, I started there. Also, learning how to stay cool with no power in a Florida summer. Lights. Battery powered fans. Alarm clocks. Etc. Food I was slowly doing as a rotating pantry but hadn't gotten that far. Maybe 2 weeks, max at the moment.

So, I do not disagree there at all. My disagreement comes when you post this after the event. Not before. When everyone is already panic buying and stockpiling way more then they need. That isn't good. And creates a lot of issues.

So, I appolgize if I came across wrong. I do not disagree at all that humans need to be more prepared in the event of a local or national or, like now, a world wide event happens. But, stockpiling after the event? Of more then you and your family actually needs? Which is what's happening in the US. That's what I am disagreeing with. Not to say you are stating that people need to buy more then what they need. Just stating that's what's happening.

Hopefully, I clarified what I meant and it made sense.

Here in Australia we've had the major supermarkets enforcing tight limits on essential food supplies for over a week already. So even if you wanted to now stockpile here - things like rice, pasta, frozen veges, TP - there are have been limits of 1 or 2 of those items per transaction for a while now.

Wish they'd do that here in the US. Walgreens had a limit of disinfectants. 2 per person. Though it was all gone by the time I got there. But not food. It's a free for all with food. Sadly.

Austrailia seems to have their shit together. The US needs to model after y'all.

Gonna make some meal plans tomorrow and then on Thurs when I go to my therapist's, I'm gonna see if I can find some things that I need for said meals. I think I can make some meals with what I have but there are some small things that I need for a few others.

The gym pool etc all open to over 3,000 people.

Gyms are open? That’s crazy! My friend finally found a place that could do his workers comp strength training...but it’s a gym and our gyms are now closed. He probably won’t get the help he needs for at least another few months as it was hard just to find the gym. The kicker was that he finally got the workers comp approval just a few hours before the gyms closed. ?

Taiwan closed off travel from China the day the US did. Everyone is wearing masks and.they have hand sanitizer everywhere . One death and very low infection rate as of today.

And this is why I am adamant about masks providing some level of protection. How can they not? Even someone sneezing on a screen will have SOME of their sneeze particles stopped by the screen, right? And masks are better than screens. Am I saying that masks are THE answer? Not by a long shot. But I do believe they are another tool in the protection toolbox. If we all wore masks everywhere, then it could flatten the curve, and that’s the goal, right?

I am actually pissed at our government and doctors telling us that masks only matter if you are already sick. People spout this back to me. But now that we know that MANY people are asymptomatic carriers, this argument goes out the window. But is anyone listening? Not really.

I still have my masks that I snagged last winter from my doctors office last year before a flight. I wasn’t about to get sick on my flight to Florida. I’m glad I save them, because I now wear them when I must go out. I’m going to figure out if somehow I can sanitize them. (I’m desperate and my ordered masks don’t arrive for another week.)

Be careful about not crossing over into pandemic-shaming. I'm not saying anyone is doing this here... but it is a common human behavior that will start happening as stress levels spike.

I've been thinking about this and seeing it happen. Blame gives you some sense of control. Even if it's not over the actual event, if we have someone to blame it means there's something that can be supposedly be changed. "If only they wouldn't...." "If only they would...."

I don’t know about anyone else, but it takes me over a year to just use one container of mustard! (Yes, I actually watched one of those coupon clipping shows where the family did buy a huge amount of mustard! ?)

Which reminds me that once again, I was at the store and forgot mustard. Drat.
