Homes can be adventure

^ Thanks Ronin I'm going to look into it. And yeah if I look around my house there are a million little jobs to do but I'm feeling lousy so - not doing it today. Not starting it today.

I'm turning it around: Awesome

^Way to go Ronin.

Is it a online shop that's just for those that have to self quarentine?
^I'm in Australia LFS - so Woolworths are one of several I had to choose from. Actually, they were great bc I have to provide evidence of my 'disability' but they didn't have anyway of uploading my doctors report. So I rang them and they understood my problem and have bypassed that part of the screening process to expedite my application. So now I've just got to wait.

It helped my brain not feel so trapped and alone. Plus, others leave my service dog alone now. No more unwanted petting. People actually back up. Yes! Added bonus.

^I'm not that well atm so limiting my walks to the backyard which is quite large. So I'm lucky that I live where I do.

My therapist is getting ready to do teleconferences. I

^I've been having teleconferences with my psydoc and other health professionals for a really long time. My T is just converting to it now.

Chinese officials say a Japanese drug used to treat influenza is effective in treating Covid-19.

^Wow that's big! Have you got a source?

I can never tell if I'm being hyper about it though, or not.

^Put simply no you are not.

notice same fellow from earlier leaving with 2 more packs. Hmmm not good.

^Yeah, I've seen this happen two or three times. It's so selfish.

Anyway, I'm hoping to be able to feed several neighbors this summer.

^You are so resourceful and have a heart of gold DG. I wish you were my neighbour!

Is anyone else struggling with thoughts that the coronavirus will inevitably kill you? No panic, just a sense of inevitability.

^Yes. I'm worried because I'm already struggling and I'm alone now so the thoughts are getting louder.
and I'm thinking of all the things I've left part or undone. My little human mess I suppose. I feel like I should start to lessen what my children will have to sort through after I go. I know this is my ptsd brain getting at me when I'm down. Got to try and fight it. ugh..

Damn fools. I hope they learn fast. S

^With this virus it will be learn or die JMH. There are no second chances if high risk. You're looking after yourself and trying to make those who are ignorant behave safely. I think for some people, unfortunately it is a lost cause.

I fear more deaths occur before a lot of people listen.

^Absolutely. The modelling is terrifying. And, even the best case scenaro models are crazy bad. They also don't model countries where health systems are non-existent.

The countries where health facilities of any nature don't exist or are third world - it will be extremely brutal but very quick. Then herd immunity will occur. Their crisis will be very fast. For us it is a long slow burn.

Personally? I'm definitely not giving up my dog walks.

^When I'm feeling better - I'm going to start walking at night because nobody is around then. And it's peaceful.

That walk is essential for doggo's health, but it's going to become increasingly important for my own health.

^Same here. :)

Is anti-bacterial. Not anti-viral. But hey, if it makes me feel better? Sometimes that's a win:eek:
^I suppose any washing is better than none when push comes to shove. But soap is the only personal washing item that kills it. Everything else will just make us feel and smell better. Not stay safe and limit spread.

God! I must stop watching the morning news. I've woken up sick and honestly I don't want to do anything.

I hope to see more things like this because of exactly what you said. Knowledge is power and while symptoms vary massively, I do think it might help with some of the panic for the majority of people. More and varied reports will also help the high risk groups to get a good sense on what to look out for.

Yeah...massses of spring breakers in Florida. I can't even... :banghead:

Which I personally think is is prudent approach.

I've seen a tweet today basically saying to not take actions to prevent getting the virus but to take actions assuming you already have it and prevent transmissions.

--- ----

Grandparents are taken care of. Both sets are in self-isolation. My dad's cousin and wife have agreed to take care of them and go grocery shopping etc. - she's a dentist assistant, so should know all about proper precautions. I'm not completely sure who's taking care of my other grandparents (contact is a little more difficult with them as they don't really internet), but more immediate and younger family there, including my aunt (though seprated from my uncle, who is their son) who is a nurse - so again, they should be in good hands. It is a little unsettling being so far away and not able to help - I'm sure my dad feels the same (though I'm also strongly hoping HE will take care of himself as well ... he's turning 60 next month and while generally healthy, one never knows ...especially since he's still having to work till the end of the week :bag: at least they're making him drive home instead of flying)
hey! I'm 60 lol!

So familiar. And so damn easy.

I've practically been home since Sunday and don't feel even the slightest inclination to go outside anymore. Like, everyone else seems to get all jittery for having to stay inside after just a mere few days and I'm just like...*shrug* ...this is normal.

I spent the better part of last year working myself out of actual social isolation I had gotten myself into gradually over the previous year, year and a half.

I'm glad there still is social media, but I've been using that before. While I personally, thankfully, don't have/had Agoraphobia, it's so damn easy to fall back into old habits and patterns, and will probably be even harder to get back out of it again, if I'm not really careful and mindful about it. At least I'm not living alone, but still.

Please everyone, considering we ARE in a PTSD forum, be mindful and take care of your mental health as well as your physical health!
Yes I experience this. I like.being isolated. I get a lot of pressure but I just don't do well with people at all and it's worth almost.anything to avoid social contact. When I have social contact I try not to talk and I make an effort to remind myself I dont have to say anything.

But it grows on you and you get used to.it and then, it's really hard to want to do anything else. I always sorta wanted isolation. I don't mind my own company.

Time to return to old school processes of actually washing stuff!! It's almost quaint:)
It is! It feels even weird for me, even though I know the science behind it is sound. It feels like it needs to be more high tech. I’m now treating soap now like gold I spend easily on keeping things clean.

Hard one for me is not touching my face. Ugh. It’s allergy season.

Also, a friend teased me / praised that I covered my cough with my elbow even on Zoom or FaceTimewjike living alone. It’s my habit! Now more than ever. Something I took for granted as being all that helpful in the past. I used to do it mostly because it’s polite. Now?

I work hard at keeping the fear at bay. I have to work hard. The grief? There is grief. And anger. I’m angry my government on the US totally dropped the ball on testing and isolation... and didn’t do, and still has not done, what South Korea did to get things under control pretty fast. Things are still spinning out of control here and feels like everyone is just trying to land somewhere. Anywhere.

They promise more and more testing and while there is an over reliance on it, I think it will help... I think it will also show massive numbers of infections already. Most experts expect that.

it’s also the waiting. Waiting for this all to continue to ramp up, happen, and be over. One day, it will be over. This part of it all anyhow. One day, there will be change in a positive direction. I can’t wait for that day.

Soap literally pulls apart the virus.
See, I'm confused about this part.

Because our cells have a lipid based membrane.

So by that logic, any soap or other body product used to remove grease (shampoo, facewash, bodywash, etc) is "ripping apart" our cells. Our entire epidermal layer would be comprised of torn up cells, and that just isn't the case.

In my learning of amphiphilic particles, I've never known them to have the power to rip apart a lipid based membrane.

Last night and today I've been really low.worrying that my plans to leave Mr will be scuppered as well as my Hope's to start getting out in the world mixing with people. Have been retty damn isolated in my bedroom for nearly 3 years in order to keep away from him. Lost all my friendships really though I had visited an old friend a few months back and was hoping to see her again soon.

So I've decided I need to adjust my attitude somehow. Can't go back to that place in my head.

I shall have to be inventive in creating some kind of life I can face living.

Also contacted dv worker to see how this affects me being able to go to a refuge.

Am another one with asthma based bronchitis. Managed to speak to GP and got prescribed medication. Grateful :)

@bellbird - I hear you. The long and short of it is that our skin cells have s really robust and complex membrane that is much more strongly and tightly bound than that of the bonds in viruses. They are not like the cells that make up our body. There is actually a debate in science as to if they are alive or not. It’s more correct to say they are active or inactive. Because really, viruses are little tiny DNA or RNA strips incased in small tiny containers (much much smaller than the average cell) that can’t do much on their own. They are tiny buggers that slip into cell walls and take over the cell machinery to replicate.

Most cells of most life (plants and animals) do not fall apart because they are HUGE and much stronger compared to viruses. Some detergents and soaps will break down skin (not the kind you would get at a store for ordinary hygiene uses).

Viruses are actually very weak little things until they get into cells.

The science behind why soap and alcohol based cleaners kill coronavirus - The Guardian

The best resource I have found for diving deep into the science of it all is a YouTube channel by a well vetted doc called MedCram. Great for anyone with some science in their background. The doc dives into the details and gives regular updates on leading research in a very balanced and not alarming way. He’s been doing it for months since the outbreak started in China and teaches on other subjects in medicine too. MedCram - Medical Lectures Explained CLEARLY
He’s done a couple on the research behind zinc and what zinc does to the cell walls that helps keep out coronaviruses from slipping into cells and taking over. He also balances out where studies are weak too. I have found it calming. Granted, intellectualizing the sh*t out of things is one of my go-to coping skills. :)

God! I must stop watching the morning news. I've woken up sick and honestly I don't want to do anything.
This was an important thought. Consider reducing it to a window of time at least - once a day. So that you get all the essential info, then switch it off. I'm introducing news-hours at my place. It's not healthy hyperfocusing on the same info, hour upon hour, day upon day.

Keep in touch with us here. Maybe consider joining a dog tricks group on a social media platform, and have a daily lesson set aside with doggo to learn fun new tricks?

Either way, routine is essential to protecting mental health in isolation. So consider plotting out your day, and engage personal discipline to stick to activities at particular times.

ETA Sorry - those are all ideas, it's not "do this" advice. Just suggestions, from someone who wants you to come out the other side of this intact. Glad you're getting home deliveries:)

We are ok here for now. I avoided the news today again. No TV. but we were always off TV I haven't watched commercial TV cable for years and years.I watched the president's address live on YouTube today. I don't believe most of what is being said, but we will do the precautions, I'm doing them anyway I'm quite isolated. My wife's not stayed home and she is having the same amount of contact. We were going to try and have breakfast tomorrow but it's closed take out only. I don't know what's open or not. Traffic is about the same where I am. We went for our walk otherwise I have not left the house . This is not a very big change for me so far . Most of the people I have to deal with on the phone are still there for now
