News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

just watched a press conference and was yelling at my computer at the absurdness i heard ...telling people to take the medicine that is not even approved yet just to name one..................i was telling him to quit making excuses and blaming people, quit all the gaslighting,......we need a leader. I try to limit my "keeping up with the news" but during this pandemic, I find I have days, like today, that i can't quit watching. Fortunately, most of the days I get out and get a good long hike with my dog. It is scarily fascinating but I know I will start going down if I don't quit today's obsession with the virus......hard to turn my mind off....the OCD tendancy.

love this!

I was talking to a friend this morning about what the world will look like when this is over. We will continue doing the same stupid stuff we've always done and /or end up in a war or will we learn and grow and become better people as a whole?

Should be interesting

An aquaintance is writing an article about this that should be published next week. Meh.

I dunno. I feel very cynical. The length of People’s memories are inversely proportionate to their measure of self interest .

I don't know if this is the Sarasota Herald Tribune. I think Tampa has one too but I know for a fact Sarasota has one. It's their local paper name. Not great with fact checking but

Coronavirus Florida: 1,434 more cases Saturday, including 2 at Venice hospital and 4 at Sarasota Memorial

f*ck!

I am so glad I decided to go work from home when I did. It was a hard decision and on the spot decision that I had to figure out, within a span of hours while there, how to make it work but so glad I did.

It's gonna get so much harder so fast!

It's not to keep YOU from getting sick, it's to keep you from getting other people sick.
More people need to understand that point about wearing masks. Unless the whole country is wearing them, mandatory, wearing one is only stopping you infecting others around you, it does not stop them infecting you. The evidence is pretty clear about this. It's ALL in or you're just wasting masks from frontline staff who need them so they don't spread it further into the healthy ones that pass by them.

A friend just sent me these gems:

  1. I need to practice social distancing... from the refrigerator
  2. after the quarantine is over, will the producers of "My 600 Pound Life" just find me, or do I find them?
  3. my body has absorbed so much disinfectant lately that when I pee, it cleans the toilet bowl
  4. homeschooling day 5 update: one of the little monsters called in a bomb threat
  5. I'm so excited... it's time to take out the garbage, what should I wear?
  6. Classified Ad: single man with toilet paper seeks woman with hand sanitizer for some clean fun

But it’s going to cause one helluva kerfluffal
The first thing the Australian Government did, was look internally to companies who could retool their lines to start producing masks. Even though these companies have never done them before, they are now. Is America not doing similar with all the essentials frontline workers need?

I think a lot of countries are going to change manufacturing laws after this. Certain things will be required to be manufactured within a country, which lets be honest, bolsters countries internal economics. This might bring a lot of countries to implement forced manufacturing internally and less reliance on external countries just because its cheaper. Not everything, but certainly some things.

This video is probably one of the most stunning things I have seen so far. It looks like something out of a movie, but it's very real. I've seen more spooky ones about lockdowns in Wuhan, or temp morgue in New York, but somehow, seeing empty cities all over the world drives it home the magnitude of the pandemic in another way.

It amazes me how much contradictory information is out there. I read a BBC article today that contradicted everything the CDC has been saying about masks. It's no wonder people are confused.

Many companies have taken it upon themselves to re-tool their manufacturing so they can bring back workers and begin making PPE. The government has been all over the place in what they believe is needed and what they believe is being stolen or hoarded. From someone just observing/watching the news, I actually have no idea what we're doing. Today we will hear one thing and tomorrow quite another.

Wow...that's just scary.

Tbh @Justmehere , creepy as that video is, because I don't think any of us could really imagine the world 'stopping'- I find it even scarier when I see scenes of no one taking heed, packed together and partying it up as usual. The first, shows care for one's own life and others', but the second feels like the moment before you know a disaster is likely to occur but the people going along don't (if you know what I mean). :( At least at this point we can hope the absence is more from isolation than deaths.

But even here, there was way too much traffic and activity today, if you ask me. Bit of a lag in common sense or ability to bear it, I think. :(

Despite new cases being reported in most Australian States today the number seems to be trending towards level or lower infections.

But we still have a huge amount of infections on cruise ships. One ship is being utilized as a hospital ship, being provided with food & medical supplies whilst it holds around 200 infected crew on board. Just demonstrates exactly how incredibly infectious this virus is.

But some great news. The Easter bunny is a sole operator so is of course not banned! lol Just what I need to supplement my sedentary lifestyle - chocolate!! Chocolate makes everything feel better. I just bought a huge tub of chocolate ice cream. :cautious: for easter lol.
