Healthy weight loss

I'm already feeling a bit better than I was, its been good to talk about it here. Good too to read others stories and whats helped them.

I've been able to keep up the healthy eating, and gathered together a few more ideas for things to eat and such. Keeping up the short walks, Qi Gong, and found some helpful videos on YouTube about regaining strength which are great.

And I weighed myself too, I'll not get into obsessively weighing myself, just check my weight occasionally.

Still very interested in hearing what anyone has to say/ what heaven found helpful. Or if anyone wants to join in that would be great too. :)

I'm lucky if I check my weight monthly.... there are many variables otherwise that can screw with your head. If I'm a kg heavier than last month, I simply aim to have removed that over the next month.

Was in such a good mood today as I successfully slept at night, woke in the morning, and felt well. Slightly overdid it on the exercise and feel pretty bad now, but am still happy I was able to do as much as I did. Ate too much carbs today I think. Shall get on top tomorrow by pre prepping lower carb foods, got some roast beef leftover already, just need to cook some veg.

Week or so at it. Done fairly well. Defo not dieting but making better choices the majority of the time.
I can feel my middle is reducing :)

Been quite unwell again so exercise has been minimal. See how i do next week.

Makes perfect sense. I know for me personally that attempting to limit the amount I ear backfires impressively.
If it helps at all? You still get to eat ALL of it. Just not all at once.

Similar to if you made a giant pot of stew? Or cook a roast? You don’t sit down and eat it all at once, right? But but serve yourself bowls of it, or slices of it.

So you make a sandwich, or a curry, or omelette, or whatever... and eat half now & half later.

Over TIME? Sure, expectations begin to change. So 3 cashews looks as ridiculous as 500g of cashews as a “portion” // both extremes working towards the middle. Similarly, if I want to go eat my weight at the Sushi bar, or Sunday Dinner? Pfft! No problem!!! Because I’ll automatically be building in time in my schedule to account for a few hours on the lake to balance it out. Because it’s not that I can’t eat more than a palm sized portion, and it’s not cheating or wrong to. I absolutely can. As long as I also go dancing. Or hiking. Or something else fun. So it’s a win/win rather than naughty.

I weighed 155 lbs in high school and now I weigh 160 and I’m 62 years old and my health overall is excellent and blood pressure normal to low. The prostate cancer thing is a racket I think but we will see.

On the weight thing though I consider myself an expert but for one serious flaw I have that works in my favor, food makes me sick, meaning I have lots of food “sensitivity” ranging from mild to severe. So food can’t be a comfort drug for me.

My foster brother told me last night bread is a major source of salt, which causes water retention, weight gain, high blood pressure.

My advice is eat food that makes you hungry. You know what it is for you. Stuff that “goes right through you” so you are hungry an hour later. Salad comes to mind for me, but there are lots of other foods. If you get hungry a while after eating it means your engine is running hot on the high test fuel you are putting in.

I’m still on the cabbage soup which has been wonderful and just recently we’ve been making beef stew also. Look into an instant pot maybe. Cut out the processed food and bread. Some exercise is good but I never lost any weight from exercise, and I did a lot a lot a lot of exercise.

I hope you feel better. Thanks for your thread.

Yeah @Friday I'm not gonna aim for palm sized portions and I'm currently unable to exercise to any great extent.

When I tell myself I can have as much as I want I'm generally happy with normal quantities. So I'm doing ok just now.

Thanks @Mach123 I am eating a good deal more fruit & veg than I was, much less food high in sugar, carbs, unhealthy fats and processed food. Not cutting anything out. Just switching to healthier stuff more often.

I actually have an instant pot lol. Never used it. I expect I will one day.

Not saying you should... It’s just been a bit rough round these parts lately, and there were a number of posts I’d meant to reply to & either hadn’t, or they’d died in drafts. I was just trying to explain better that the trick isn’t about limiting yourself, like diets that want you to measure out 100g of chicken; nor restricting yourself to the same narrow parameters regardless of what your activity levels are. That’s all.

Lost 3lbs in first couple weeks.
Still struggling somewhat.

I can absolutely not be trusted in the supermarket. That is something I'm really gonna have to work on long term.

In the mean time not going in helps enormously.

I could do with doing better meal plan wise too. If I find I've not organised a meal, that is a point at which I'll make less good choices. So I should set up a meal plan.

I still have the vegan meal replacement shakes for the times I just don't have it in me to prepare any kind of meal.

It might be good to cook in bulk and freeze meals but Mr is hogging the freezers, always has done, very unlikely to change.

I do well when I've cooked a bulk meal and store leftovers in the fridge though.

Tentatively I'd say the meds for underactive thyroid are helping me to feel better. I do hope to feel well enough to exercise properly in the future. See how it goes.
