Getting A Service Dog.

I have finally received formal notification that I am approved for a SD. Yay! My dog is currently being trained in the special doggy academy and has yet to pass his examinations and be registered. So... it might be several months before we are introduced. I am not told anything until he/she passes.

I have been through several rounds of interviews, medicals, reports, bureaucracy with lots and lots of questions. Home inspections and more! The process is very thorough and I understand why and now.. I am finally through. Cannot believe it really. Just thought I would tell you all. :)
It is a big responsibility true. I have to get outside to take my SD to toilet. I do need to be less selfish though and go for walks. Good luck.

Thank you! - She really is a very clever dog.

I'm so very fortunate and though I know she doesn't really know how important today was - I'm sure at another level she did. She followed me around the house whilst I prepared myself and the house for the assessment watching and wagging her tail. At another level I'm sure she was 'telling' me that she knew something was up.

He told me there was nothing he needed to give me advice about or refresh her with so I'm pleased.

Congratulations!! Congratulations!! Congratulations!! What a lot of work and effort on both your parts

What breed is she? Sure she knew it was an important day for you. No faults, accessors usually find something to criticize. That's so good!

May I ask if there was anything you couldn't do? I'm told York will be judged on going up and down stairs. Recent surgery means I can't do stairs. Oh, I have so many questions now that I know somebody who passed!
Congratulations again! Tell her we are so happy about her accomplishment. We send virtual pets and lots of good dogs.
Although most of the cheers go to your girl, but you did a tremendous amount of work too. You deserve lots of praise too

Thanks @Starfire - yes we did the stairs, public transport, supermarket drop and stay, all of the alerts and domestic tasks and she ignored all of the lovely smelling food in the meat and dairy sections and the pet food isles and didn't blink when the assessor got a squeaky toy out and squeezed it several times. So.... she had an extra long play session outside and lots of cuddles.

Can you ask someone to take York up and down the steps a few times whilst you sit at the bottom?

Yesterday I had my job interview remotely.

I put K in her crate with water, a big fat bone and a Kong filled with treats. This is her usual fare for crate time.

Just before the video went live she started 'singing' to herself. I couldn't believe it. Her crate is in my bedroom and is quite the little boudoir so cannot see why she'd be grumbling. I always put the radio on for atmosphere and I shut the door as well as the hallway door. Usually she cannot get in there fast enough but then also usually I leave the house.

I was quite preoccupied with her squeaking voice for a couple of minutes. Thankfully ms teams took an extra moment or two to load and she gave it up just as the screen burst into sections with the panel staring straight back at me.

The rest is a blur. Amazing how I cannot recall anything about the interview but I don't know what I would have done if she'd decided to sing a whole lot more. Especially as I asked the panel if successful could I bring my service dog to work... 🤨

Doing formal job interviews is something I haven't done in a long time.

Doing them by remote - never.

So I didn't need my dog working or otherwise in that space at that time.

Also, if anything that she's trained to respond to had happened at the time of the interview it would have created a major disruption and sent the interview to hell.

So for her sake crating meant that she's off duty and allowed to ignore everything and enjoy her bone and treats.

For my sake, I didn't have her responding to things I would choose to ignore during a job interview anyway.

Thanks for the encouragement. They asked if my referees were up to date. It may have been a standard question but I guess if I had completely blown it they wouldn't bother following up with that question.

Is she a husky?!! My late husky would sing to herself at the most inconvenient time.
Noticed as York's training progressed he disliked me being out of his sight. I was so proud at PT the other day cuz he laid out of sight for 2 hours. When I went to retrieve him, discovered he had mauvered the curtain just above his eyes..Not sure if I should be pleased he was smart enough to solve his problem or displeased! He didn't actually move.

Have you heard back from your interview? Hope it was successful.
