Keto Diet Effects On Mood

In regards to mood I've found that dairy seems to have a big impact too. I've noticed that not only does it make me physically tired but it also makes brain fog worse. These are just my observations, your mileage may vary.

Keto causes cramps in my lower legs. I know this to be a fact now. I mean before I started Keto I would get the occasional cramp. Now they are a daily experience. I am in the habit of adding magnesium, potassium and B vitamins every day now. That seems to be easing them a little - I hope, I think?!

So when I was doing Keto I would get massive leg cramps. I thought it was my fairly rigorous swimming routine and other stuff. Then I stopped around 2 months ago for three weeks. The cramps stopped almost the day after I stopped Keto.

When I started again within about a week, massive cramps again.

I find this too. It also aggravates my IBS :(. Yet I retain all the other benefits. Dealing with the ibs keeps seeing me fall off the wagon though :(

@Mee - have you tried psyllium husk for that?

I have a relative who has IBS and they swear by it. They were buying metamucil? which is extraordinarily expensive, considering it is almost entirely psyllium husk too but flavoured artificially and with some additives that are not the effective ingredient.

Now for about one tenth of the price, so a couple of dollars here, they purchase it a bag without the additives and gain the same benefits without the expense.

Also, I have found to help keep the engine room purring I need to drink heaps of water whilst on Keto. Are you drinking enough because it is really easy to not drink enough water regardless of diet.

I have IBS -d, so it’s not the protein part of the diet - it’s the fibre with out carbs - so psyllium husk etc aggravates the situation 😳. But yes- water intake is vital for me and yet still problematic. On days I go out ( went out ? It feels historical now!) I drink less to try and control things a bit but it puts a wrench in the system for days.

I felt a better a long time ago with a raw food diet with little to no fat. I don't think keto is healthy long-term because you need grains. Just another alternative, any diet that is different maybe help with mood improvement that doesn't mean it's good long term.

I have to get back on the keto wagon. I started a new med for diabetes. It worked really well in controlling blood sugar but I had bad side effects. I kept at it for 2 months since the info said it would take that long for the side effects to go away and they just got worse. I couldn't eat without pain and nausea. I did lose 14 lbs though, lol, but I was miserable. I had to stop the med, which means my diet has to be low carb.

You can try the raw vegan diet. Fasting is another alternative.
