Hi Jade,
I am going to hang on to this. It is such a good explanation. But there is also and in-between. We can "give" knowing that it is a sacrifice of part of self. I am giving my full emotional support to my girls, but in doing that, I am sacrificing my emotional health. I am giving it out of love, with full knowledge of the sacrifice involved. But it is totally my choice. No one is making me and I want to do it.
But then, I know they will benefit from it, so no "hopefully" there. It makes me feel good and bad. But the "bad" is my problem, not theirs.
This is probably the weirdest post I have ever made.
What I'm learning is there's a huge difference between 'sacrificing' and 'giving'. Sacrificing means totally giving up who and what you are in order to 'hopefully' benefit someone else. You never regain what you have sacrificed. You feel bitter and forever changed.
Giving means 'wanting' to help, it comes from caring and is done out of kindness or love. And after it's all said and done, it makes you feel good. Both parties benefit.
