It's fairly rare to see this happening here, albeit not impossible. However I do think that the right way to go about it is in fact making a report—that would be the closest you get from calling the police.

As you say there are occurrences where people do get abused with crowds just going on with their lives just next, but there are also occurrences where people mob against someone and they get lynched. The way I see it is that this place is a safe place and given the volatile nature of PTSD, it is to expect that members aren't always very nice to say the least.

The reason I find this place here healing is because there is a reasonable understanding of how yourself can turn batshit, because for many of us, it can be part of the disorder and if there isn't space where we feel safe enough to admit our own shitty behaviour, then it will simply never be called out at all and it's possible to persist and sign. I don't think I've ever witnessed enabling behaviour here, or at the least so much less than anywhere, anywhere else on the Internet. And where it starts to get out of hand there have been mod interventions that were fair, people do get banned for all sorts of reasons, generally very valid ones I think.

@Movingforward10 I want to address first your accusation that I used quotes in the original post- I did not. I used vague examples, never naming anyone and never using any direct part of their posts. Clearly I wasn't vague enough for the mods, but I think you are believing I was just pulling people's direct words and identities and posting them and I assure you I did not.

Lastly, not everything is projection. When I had my own post about my friend possibly ghosting me (which turns out she didn't), that was definitely projection. I had no concrete evidence of the thoughts running through my mind. This time I do, several concrete examples actually, and they have now been sent over to the mods.

@PShermanWallaby
I saw the original post before it was changed by the mods. I agree you did not post anything as a direct example and I too wondered why it was modified. However having seen it before and after I can tell you that you did give enough information for me to know what (who) you were talking about.

There are rules everywhere and in this case it is that you can’t take information from the members side to the non. This makes sense because the members side can be searched via an internet search engine and the non cannot. One might question why it matters but for me it’s because if someone with ill intent finds it through the search engine they might make an account to access information rather than to get help and support for PTSD.

This is correct. Members post to the member's section with an expectation that he events they write about there will not be brought into the internet-at-large.

This doesn't guarantee absolute privacy, as there isn't any such thing (really) on the internet; but it does give the member an additional layer of protection.

If members want to post with a higher level of privacy, they can do so by using the Private diaries; those are only accessed by site admin.

Thanks - it is appreciated.

I did think you had directly put in quotes of people from other threads given how it was written. Thanks for clarifying that.
But you clearly put in enough info for people one forum member to work out who you were talking about. So I still think that was passive aggressive.
But great that you have reported posts.

But I see there is now a policy enforcement on your account. I don't know if that is temporary or permanent.

I challenge people all the time. Both IRL and online.

Not that I go walking around shouting the truth, but if someone asks me AND I feel like spending my time and energy on them? I’ll say it as I see it, or kick some knowledge over, or throw them some research starting points. Shrug. Like most people I generally interact with others the way I want others to interact with me. Basic golden rule.

Which means that anything on this site? Is open game. As people are asking. Whether or not I have the time/energy? Is a me thing.

Permanent. Turns out, the @PShermanWallaby account was a troll.

I think this was a useful thread, regardless. And it's a sad but good reminder of how anyone can pretend to be anyone on the internet.
Thanks @joeylittle. It is a useful thread all round.
Is it appropriate to ask on here, how you know if someone is a troll?

Always makes me a bit unsettled when people turn out to be someone else on here, but it is a useful reminder like you say. And reminds me to be careful about what I say on here so that I can't be identified in real life.

Mmm @Movingforward10 the tendency of doubling down in conflict by obliquely changing the topic at each answer really gives it away (or suggests it very heavily). Like when he deliberately ignored the spirit of your message to picker on the details.

I almost wrote something about it but thought it would just worsen so chose not to directly engage.
