Hi eve and welcome to the forum:)

My symptoms were lack of sleep, mood swings, nightmares, flashbacks, depression and headaches.
But everyone is different eve. The are some good book suggested on this site that might help.

Healing I can't honestly say as I'm still a mess, I guess everyone heals in their own way.

My symptoms are nightmares, flashbacks, lack of sleep, hypervigilance, lack of trust, panic attacks, dissociation (although I didn't notice that one until recently).
Don't really know when the healing starts, as I only have had a couple of therapy sessions.
 
When does the healing start and how do you recognize PTSD symptoms.

It is very different for each individual. Sometimes recovery includes searching through your past, or examining your beliefs about yourself. There are good articles on this site that will help you understand more about the PTSD, and how it effects our lives. Healing does not happen quickly, it's taking steps forward, one at a time, until you find your way.

Expect to work hard, as this is a stubborn illness. We just have to stand strong even when we don't feel like it! Coping skills that should have been instilled in us are usually not there, but you CAN learn the tools. Refuse to give up, or give in!

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. The first step is making sure that you have PTSD (if you have not done so already). working with a therapist, learning coping techniques, maybe making lifestyle changes and just wanting to get better or huge steps towards achieving that goal. This forum is a great place for information and support to augment the healing process.
