Cymbalta

My spouse was on it for quite awhile for chronic pain and depression. Worked well for him for a bit, then wore off.

I have been taking cymbalta as well for the depression and chronic pain in my shoulder and hand. I was also given Lyrica, it is a horrible medication makes you dizzy. Finally was given Zoloft to cope with the PTSD a few weeks back, makes me lightheaded but keeps me from doing stupid things and have stupid thoughts. I also found acupuncture was a good pain relief. a more natural way of pain relief. No more Lyrica for me.

I have been on Cymbalta for about two years now, and I feel like I've gotten worse, my yo-yo mood swings, sometimes I dont want to get out of bed even though I dont have a reason to be tired. I cant sleep at night, my anxiety is horrible, my Dr just gave me Ambilify to add too it. Has anyone had any luck with this?

That's one I haven't tried. I've been on Elavil, Zoloft, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Prozac, Celexa. None of them work for very long. I've given up on treating the depression because of all of the meds...I've been on them back and forth for years, with no long term relief. What I need the most relief for is the excruciating anxiety, the insomnia. I too, am always exhausted. I feel like it is because I have been on hyper alert and struggling for survival my entire life. I feel like I could sleep the rest of my life....if only I could get to sleep.:(

Hi Circe47, I feel the same. I told my therapist I wish I could sleep and never wake up, but I get scared to go to sleep as I get nightmares. I found acupuncture, yoga to help me a bit, just started it, had 1-2 sessions so far. Its natural therapy.

Yes, nightmares are a serious problem for me too, Mandy. My problem is that after being on a 5150 hold, my doc won't give me an adequate anti-anxiety medication. It truly sucks having a severe anxiety disorder and not be able to receive medication for it.

Try prazosin, for the nightmares. Its a blood pressure medicine but has been showing to show relief for PTSD victims for nightmares. It has worked for me, eliminated about 80%of the nightmares....which is awesome. The first week taking it I was so tired though, which I read was a side affect, and the first day i slept nearly 15 hrs straight.

Unfortunately, Cymbalta can do the things you have mentioned. In fact, I'm going through a few of them myself at the moment.

It has been an extremely effective anti-depressant for me in the past, however now that I am back on it again (I had to come off it as we were planning a pregnancy), it doesn't seem to be doing it's job as well. It is disturbing my sleep significantly and is making me very agitated. My psychiatrist told me that it does both these things - it isn't really a 'calming' drug, if that makes sense. I do wonder how much is related to my circumstances though....

I haven't heard of the other drug you mentioned, which is odd, as I've tried so many different ones LOL

my Dr just gave me Ambilify to add too it

Do you mean Abilify? I heard that it is suppose to work very well. My GP said it had good results with most of his patients. I did not have a good experience but that could be because the Cymbalta quit working and I crashed hard. Was in a really dark place that we were trying to get me out of. Now that they have me fairly balanced, they are going to try the Abilify again. Wellbutrin isn't working like they hoped. Plus I am going off the Seroquel. My physical ailment already causes fatigue without something else causing me to be tired. However, the Seroquel did help me sleep through the night and fall asleep quicker then usual. That was nice.

I hope they find a combination that works better for you. Alternative treatments might work do. I know, at times, I feel very desperate and wish that everything could just work smoothly. Seems like this has been going on way too long.
