Nightmares ARE reexperiencing the trauma. This is why you need a professional diagnosis. Someone mentions reexperiencing and in your lay opinion you say you don't reexperience your trauma but you may be!

Hi Lemon Kittens,
Straight after my last post I bumped a thread about PTSD without flashbacks and hoped you would see it. Lots of things that may not be totally obvious can fall under the intrusive criteria. That are not full flashbacks like you see in films. That includes nightmares. Again for a diagnoses there needs to be a certain amount of intrusive symptoms per week.

But again regardless I hope you see someone. People can also fall under the criteria for PTSD and then later end up fully symptomatic. So I do think if you have experienced a trauma and you feel affected by it it is important to get help. Especially if the symptoms have not subsided after a month.

And again. Even if it isn't PTS at all is that that important? You are affected by what has happened and are obviously looking for help and no label changes that one way or the other.

sleep was at least the ONE place we could escape to for a break?
Absolutely Blackbird. So darn fed up with sleep at present.

I know that nightmares are one of the ways in which people re-experience their traumas. It's rare now that I have a nightmare about the events of the crime (the crime happened years ago), though what happened affects me to this day. I have nightmares now and then about spiders, so I hope that when I finally move out of here, my issues and anxiety with spiders will improve.

Yeah, sleep *should* be something that you look forward to. I can empathize with those of you who are dealing with chronic nightmares.

Thanks for the recent responses; it's nice to know that people care.
