Dear wicked chld

Thank you for contacting us and I hope we can help. Thank you for contacting us and I hope we can help.

We have two clinics, an outpatient/day clinic in London and a residential in Oxford.

Day Clinic

Our Day Clinic offers various treatment options. Initial Assessments are £200 per hour and last 1.5 hours. Ad hoc bookings at the clinic are £200 per hour.

We also offer 10 week Trauma Reduction Programmes with 2 options.

Option 1: Cost: £1,900
1 x individual session (per week)
Access to all groups (Monday-Wednesday, 6-7.30pm)

Option 2: Cost: £3,500
2 x individual session (per week)
Access to all groups

Residential Clinic

Our residential clinic in Oxford is £6,900 a month. We usually ask for a 2-3 month minimum stay but that is very much dependant on the client and how quickly they respond to the therapy.

First step is the assessment and our senior consultants will then be able to discuss these options in more detail and also suggest which would be best for yourself. Obviously this is dependent on your circumstances and what you can commit to but this can all be discussed both with me any time and with the clinician during the assessment.

Follow this link for more information about the treatment we offer in our clinics. khironhouse

Insurance

We have had insurance companies pay for assessments with psychologists but so far that's it. They are very conservative and we are a cutting edge service. You would have to ask them and then they would contact us.

NHS funding

We have had NHS referrals. However this is entirely down to your doctor and his or her NHS trust. There are thousands of doctors and over a hundred trusts so we just don't know if this is possible for you. Please ask your doctor. If they want to take it forward they will contact us direct.

If you have any questions, would like to talk to me about these options in more detail or book an assessment, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

wilked gill

Sounds like a sketchy and untested operation to me if they don't have arrangements to accept insurance, nor do they offer other credentials that I can tell. If the cost discourages you, perhaps you can use it as motivation to find other programming. They are billing on the high side, I'm sure you can find other trauma treatment options that do indeed have relationships with insurance companies and/or sliding scales.

P.S. The page regarding the credentials and details of staff is blank. That's concerning too.

Not accepting insurance is not an indication of "sketchiness", at least in the USA. A lot of therapists and trauma programs don't accept insurance due to the hoops they have to jump through which prohibit free treatment of the patient. I've personally seen a number of therapists who don't accept insurance, and I've been to an intensive trauma program that *cant* accept insurance, not of their own doing, rather due to the fact that insurance limits patients to two (three? lol, one of these!) hours a week of individual therapy sessions whereas that program provided 35 hours a week of one-on-one time. (Which is why inpatient hospitals are mostly group therapy).

Wicked Child, I don't know what the reason is for your PTSD or what other therapy options you've looked into. Have you tried charities?

There are places that can either offer affordable therapy or help you find it, depending on your history/cause of PTSD - for example, Combat Stress if you have Combat PTSD, Mankind Counselling for men who've been sexually abused, or Mind to suggest a number of counselling options. These are only examples, there are others as well.

You might also be able to find an individual private counsellor who specialises in trauma, who will offer a reduced fee depending on your circumstances.

I know it's frustrating to want a solution and then find programmes offered at £200 per hour when it's out of the question to pay that kind of money. I've been there and done that. I had to change how I was looking and focus on charities and individuals, rather than searching generally for trauma and PTSD treatment.

Wicked child, I'm little unsure why you have posted what you have, since you don't personally comment upon it all, except in your title.

Does 'oh well' mean that you can't afford, or that you can, but can't commit the time to a 2-3 month residential stay?

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but you're going to have to be a more descriptive as to what your issue is, and what help / advice you are looking for. I could hazard a guess, but I prefer to know what the issue is before I feel able to offer advice.

... so, the possible charity options? or a private therapist with affordable fees/sliding scale? Have you looked into these much?

I am not diagnosed, but it seems reasonable to assume. I have the whole thing except the "starling responsive" I first thought that I might be suffering from ptsd about 15 years ago. I sought help but gave up. Reasons included months of waiting, painful memories, being brought to to tears before a stranger. It is much more difficult for men.

Then recently I read an article by Ben Fry, Which is the second article to interest me in my problem. I am astonished at how so many people are affected by this.

So I saw my new doctor. Shes wants me to give the booze slowly. I'm doing that. Then It's off the see the trick cyclist, but I am unsure when that will be. Meanwhile, I have joined a ptsd group on Facebook. It's nearby in Manchester UK. I am currently trying to find out how much that charge.

Oh I am reading Waking the Tiger. It is an excellent read. I really like the guy's approach. We speaks about humans having this problem for ever. He mentions shamans , and community involvement. I like the idea.

You need a diagnosis before you can get the best treatment for you. Symptoms of other disorders can be similar and be misinterpreted, and also a diagnosis is based on more than symptoms. I wouldn't investigate PTSD treatment until you've seen the psychiatrist and heard what s/he has to say. After that point, you can investigate the best treatment for whatever your diagnosis is, whether that's PTSD or something else.

It is much more difficult for men.

I'm sorry but I don't think anyone can say that. There may be issues that are common to men, and that's very valid. I don't think comparing and saying one person or group's experience is more difficult than another's, for whatever reason, is valid or useful.

I am not impressed either. Ben Fry is a millionaire and I think he'd like some more.

He too was impressed by Peter Levine, and has basically copied his work at Melody House Arizona.

... so, the possible charity options?

Thanks for this

Very good advise !

OK, let me say that crying is natural to women. But men are very wary of this. It is difficult to talk about this stuff without getting emotional, and men don't like that
