We all have so many concerns with our "condition", but I want to know what GOOD things people can identify about themselves despite your past traumas. I am curious to know how many of us might be talented in certain areas. For me, I have recently found I enjoy writing and think I am pretty good at it sometimes too! What are you good at?

This is a great question! I was just thinking about this in another post.

The experiences have made me one heck of a planner and a person that tries to think ahead to identify and plan for relevant options/issues. This has resulted in great professional opportunities and rewards.

I look forward to hearing more from others. Thanks for putting this topic out there.

I'm good at the little things and noticing or acknowledging the little things. It is a detriment when I turn toward myself, but it seems to validate and be appreciated by others, like my clients. I like working in a job that establishes a bit of a bond with people who I provide care/safety for but are not my family.

Great topic.

I am a good planner due to a tendency to look at the future too much. I am also can see the connection between problems and the possible sources of the problem. Guess that means i am good at analysis and problem solving.

Before receiving treatment for PTSD I was horrible at anything that involved emotional intelligence. I had no empathy and could not read emotions in others at all. I am getting much better at this, partially because my own emotions are not drowning me like they used to.

Nothing shocks me, not even the evening news. I understand the full spectrum of good and evil that colors all human experiences.

Do you ever find that you sometimes overthink empathy to your own detriment?

Yes, I hate when someone is acting out on anger, or there is an argument or conflict near me. I often react poorly to it. It can put ME into a rage. Often I simply leave the area if I have the presence of mind and didn't get caught up in the conflict (triggered).

I know this may seem as an oxymoron, as I have anger and rage issues. I have some OCD characteristics. Over thinking is my Achilles heel.

I am good at analyzing things and figuring things out (overintellectualization).

I have a lot of self-awareness as to keep my emotions in check.

I know how to stay calm in a high conflict situation.

I think as a result of my PTSD, I am good at going with out sleep or food for long periods of time if needed. I have a lot of stamina, and I am good at analyzing things and being forward thinking. I am also have great reflexes, and I hear really well and memorize sounds perfectly. (I think this might have been a born proclivity though since I am an audio engineer and musician? Not sure?) I am hyper aware of my surroundings and sometimes this is useful in certain situations where I may need to look out for others in a busy environment. I'm also a great planner and organizer. It seems like a lot of us are showing these things in common. :) I think its really great to think about all of this in this context. Many thanks to the topic starter!
