Hi,

I just found this site and while I haven't been diagnosed with PTSD my husband and my best friend think it might be. I had previously a very bad relationship that went on for years, I only got away when went to uni, even tho I'm now married he will still find me and send messages and has come down over the years and had bad experiences then. I'm not big on talking about it and due to previous experiences I'm terrified of doctors and just looking for guidance. I struggle talking about it as I feel sometimes I'm harping on as I should have got over it by now. I recently got a new job and while I've always struggled sleeping I just seem to wake up every night screaming and just nightmares are getting so bad I'm starting to not be able to keep up. I'm currently on a graduate programme so really need to keep up .......
Sorry to ramble on I'm not really sure what to do and know not helping myself in some respects just guess looking if there's anyone out there who kinda gets it.

Thanks so much for listening and reading :)

Hi and welcome to the forum! I encourage you to seek out professional help. There is a lot of healing that you can do on your own, but from what I've seen and experienced, there is only so much that you can do on your own as this really is a journey that one needs professional help with.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you seek professional help if you've not done so. I also had an abusive relationship, although it is not my primary trauma. You will find support here while you sort out your diagnosis and find other sources of support.

Only a trained doctor or trauma therapist can give you a diagnosis. You are obviously struggling and in need of care. I don't know why you are afraid of doctors, so can't comment on that. But a stress disorder just festers on endlessly in an environment of silence. Perpetrators know this somehow and use it against you. I hope this forum can be a starting place for you to gain confidence that talking about your symptoms will help reduce them. Domestic violence agencies have caregivers that are specially trained to help women with your history. If you look online for your area and can't find a number, try calling your local hospital for a phone number. Breaking your silence is saying "no more".

Welcome, I hope you can find the courage to see a doctor. You deserve to get better. Would taking your husband or your friend to the doctor with you be an option? All the best.

Welcome. Hopefully it's not PTSD... There are a lot of trauma related disorders & conditions that are temporary (months or years long) and can be better treated than PTSD, and have similar symptoms.

Thanks everyone for such kind words :) I'm doing some research and possibly looking to go to the docs. I'm trying to build up courage just so awful talking about it tho.
