Earplugs And Sleeping / Not Sleeping...

Hi,
so about 2 years ago I started to notice that I could hear every little nose in the house and couldn't sleep. :wideeyed: I do take melatonin to help regulate my sleep patterns, I don't drink any caffeine, and I usually don't eat after 6:30 pm as I am very sensitive to any stimulants even sugar. I now have to sleep with earplugs every night to help block out the sounds and get some rest. I still wake up exhausted, just not as badly as before. If anyone out there has any ideas I could try it would be very greatly appreciated. Oh, I don't want to take any prescriptions for this either as my head is very sensitive to meds because of my migraines.:) Thanks, Raven

I have a white noise machine. It wasn't too expensive, less than $20. It's small so I can travel with it.

There are apps you can get that will produce all sorts of sounds including white noise, brown noise, rain, the ocean, and so on. Maybe you could try that first?

You can also use a fan to produce "white noise".

thought of artificially not being 'able' to hear would keep me awake.
Even with the earplugs in I hear the sound! That's how hyper sensitive / hyper vigilant my ears have become. .. I'll wake up to noises and the rest of the family will sleep right through. :cautious: It totally sucks! ! The earplugs just muffle it some allowing my ears / brain to somewhat block the nose so I can kind of sleep.

I have used music in one ear, but I'm afraid of sleeping through the alarm clocks ( <- not a typo. By the time I get 2 or 3 or 4 hours, I am wiped).

I think the light makes me feel better, so that helps. It's weird, in the day dimmer light helps,in the night white light or off-side light helps.

Noise cancelling headphones
Can't use these as I can't handle the pressure on my head. Yes, I have sensory issues.
light makes me feel better
Can't use any lights or I won't be able to sleep, even light under the door drives me crazy.
it's normally in the early morning before I fall asleep,
I have to be up and getting ready for work at 5:30am each weekday, so I have to sleep at night. Also if I do nap I can't sleep at night as it throws off my sleep cycle. :( I do wish my body / head wasn't so sensitive! !
