Do you guys have passports?
If you don't have them yet, apply for them

Is there easier travel within the SADEC area?
The bergs are probably your easiest bet if you need to cross a border.
Botswana is probably the most economicallysound place in southern Africa. Nowhere is perfect, but Botswana is good, and many of the traditional African institutions still prevail there.

Stocks of fuel are important. Hope you guys don't have the bio additions that stop fuel from keeping.
A good stock of fuel filters is a good idea too.

If you do need to use back roads, 125 or 175 cc 4 stroke bikes are quiet and go a long way on a gallon. Puncture repair kits are vital.

Hi Nikie, In gathering supplies, you might want to browse the web for "disaster survival kits" and checklists. Especially the ones approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They are pretty thorough, and although you can buy the pre-assembled kits, you can put one together for your family by yourself.

The checklists are important, so that you don't forget anything. There are also plenty of tips on sheltering in place, travel, trauma treatment, and many other topics worth knowing in advance of a disaster. :bookworm:

We can give you general tips, but it is good to have a single source and lists that the whole family can understand. Stuff like maps, compasses, compact radio and communication gear, etc. are easy to forget about in a hurry. So you might just research some things and see what you might be overlooking. :oops:

In your case, you may need a separate backpack for each person, with basics in case your family gets separated. :arghh;

Dobbin might be slow, but it can go places bikes can't, like swimming rivers if there are check points or roadblocks on bridges. It can jump fences too.

Dobbin can refuel at night, and, you can eat the bugger.

Well trained, it can kick an attackers head of with a kick from a front foot.

Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

It can jump fences too.

That's risky for the rider(s) if not used to it. Might add wire cutters to your tool box. What the hell if it's illegal! You'll be the only law. The 3 rules will be: GO!, GO!, and GO!, if it's time.

Please make sure everyone can read a map and compass and knows all the options. Nobody gets to be a sissy until later. I'm just trying to imagine myself in your place, and I don't like it.
