2011 For Ptsd Forum

Another year, another adventure, more healing to be done. 2011 will encompass some exciting additions to PTSD Forum and associated forums. The xenforo software is still in beta and will become gold this year, meaning stable. Once stable, many new developments will be built for the software. The software right now already has some very cool additional features added, I merely haven't upgraded the software here due to issues that typically arise with upgrades and modifications, and I am still having holidays until mid Jan... so I will worry about such things later in Jan.

The image upload and viewing will improve immensely. There will be a gallery addition later this year along with many more features. This software is very early within its build, so lots of exciting features to come which I have no doubt will appease members.

Along with a gallery, which is member pics except in a gallery, like the media section, there will be improvements to chat and other existing functions, though many new functions coming. With the next upgrade alone, member timed post editing will return, except I will set it to more like a hour this time around, to avoid any issues with editing posted content, plus more.

The PTSD store will close this year, as it really was a good idea, though wasn't supported, which I figured would occur, as CafePress and such places are more novelty and expensive, not realistic. Instead I hope to introduce some competitions / prizes for members this year... ranging from free upgrades to minor electronics / online gifts, such as iTunes downloads, etc. A lot more thinking required on that one though yet, along with a lot of trial and error.

Looking forward to 2011 though and bringing members many exciting improvements and greater interactivity upon the forum.

Thanks for all you do, Anthony. I came back here the other day after being gone for a year or so, and am still trying to get used to this new format. The upgrades you mention sound good, and I will look forward to seeing them.

Sitting down and looking into my proposed plans for coming upgrades, the following is being put into place:

• Upgrade to beta 6 (which has many new features and improvements)
• Add invite system which will tie into competitions
• Upgrade moods and shoutbox (most likely after gold)
• Add several key aspects to sidebar (similar to top posting members, ie. most liked, latest thread, birthday, etc)
• Improved spam prevention abilities being added
• Mass alert for admin to send custom alerts, ie. important thread, notice, etc
• Trophy promotions (ie. features added to your account)
• Gallery
• More help videos coming

Oh, you'd be surprised just how much technical stuff 5-year-olds these days understand. They're growing up in a much different world than we did and tend to catch on to these things much more quickly than we do.

I have increased the forum homepage sidebar content to provide a greater snapshot of member activity. Top posters, liked users and trophies by user... and increased each to the top 20.

Birthdays have now been included, so any birthdays will appear in the sidebar.

Included latest 5 status updates, which users can also do from the status sidebar itself, otherwise within their profile pages.

I really do like these ideas, in spite of what I said tongue in cheek in the other thread (about wanting to be anonymous).

I really like the birthday notification. I don't know that I'd start a birthday thread for everyone but it will be nice to see who has a birthday and send them a quick "Happy Birthday"!

Hmm wonder if people would get freaked with messages from those they don't know. Think I'll start a thread to get opinions before I start doing this. I notice that the first one listed today is a 21 year old girl and I don't want to freak her out.

ISH - Lots of members aren't 'active', and may have posted only a handful of times, and it may have been some time ago. Others may have joined and never posted. Only members with zero posts are deleted from time to time by Anthony. If you just breifly scroll through the "members" list, you will see that in fact the majority of members are 'inactive'. So you probably won't freak anyone out by wishing them a happy birthday - but they may never see it! For example, those that are listed as having birthdays today, joined, never posted, and never logged into the forum again!!
