New Here
Hi im Cassandra. I discharged from the Marine Corps a year ago and was thinking about going to the VA. My family has been talking to me for a while about problems i have, ie; quick to anger, constantly on guard, no longer talkative, and i never sleep. I was pulled aside and told that all these things and my constant need to be in control of absolutely everything were sure to be ptsd. I mean i do get really anxious when im not in control to the point that my hands shake. i just dont want anything to go wrong... and i cant help but be angry all the time. But im nervous about going to the VA. I dont know what they are going to say or do. and im a little embarassed. But i just dont know how to continue with things. Any advice??? thanks

Hi cassandra21

Welcome to the forum.

There are many members on here who have been to the VA and successfully found the help they need.

They will give you advise of how to go about this, just give them a bit of time to answer you. They will put your mind at rest of what to expect and what you will need to do to get everything moving forward to a better future.

Good luck and take care.

As a veteran myself, I wanted to say that when I first was discharged, it took me some time to get back into the civilian mode. Even to this day, (and I've been out since 1982) I sometimes feel frustrated because everything seems so counter productive. Can't we work as a unit? That kind of stuff.

Also I had to realize that while I was in I was always on edge...ready for anything. The VA will have people who are familiar with all sorts of conditions that cause us trouble. Please don't hesitate to use their experience. If you are experiencing discomfort and unusual feelings you should look for help.

Welcome to the forum, and know, you are always welcome here. There are many here who know where you are at and will provide support and suggestions. Good Luck!!

Hi Cassandra,

Welcome to the forum!

If you're thinking about going to the VA with "constant need to be in control of absolutely everything," I can't imagine how you'll ever get there.

I suggest you just go, in spite of everything, if you want answers and stop thinking about this.

Is it your emotions and feeling of embarrassment that you're allowing to control you, or that fear of impending anxieties, discomfort and shaking hands?

Avoidances is a huge problem for those with Ptsd; It certainly can steal an awful lot of our present and cleverly disguise itself in many forms and for far too long, if left uncontrolled.

How about just starting with accepting that you don't have any control of outcomes and that you'd simply be going and requesting some help to see what's what and if they might be able to guide or help you know what's what or with regaining your self-control.

The alternative is to remain at such a loss, perhaps progressively lose more self-control. Already we all are at a loss of general control of people, places and things. We don't have any control over all this to start out with.

I dont know what they are going to say or do. and im a little embarassed. But i just dont know how to continue with things. Any advice??? thanks

Go to the VA with your need.

I agree with suzie q.

Would like to see you at least seek and maybe even find any and all help which you need Cassandra.

Whatever you do, please do decide.

Perhaps by now you already have. :dontknow: Anyhow, in it all please do find and take care. :dontknow:

It's in your hands and actions. :thumbs-up
